Vestax Knobs Removal

Vestax Knobs Removal

You guys have any tips/experience on removing the knobs/faders on a Vestax midi controller?

I have a Vestax VCM-100 but it should be rather similar to the VCI-100. I have tried tugging on them carefully but they don’t seem to budge. I don’t want to damage the controller.

Thanks.

I just get a thin but strong piece of string, tie a not (so its a circle), put it under one side of the knob, then twist it, and do the same for the other, sort of like a figure of 8 so the string is on both sides of the knob then just pull up on the string and pull the knob off…

I do hope that made sense!

as above i think bento once mentioned dental floss is useful for this task

i just yank them off by hand, not going to break

So long as you pull with a steady force and STRAIGHT up! You could break the post if you get side load on there.

This is how I did mine on the VCI and Oxygen 25, too.

i found the faders are the ones to be most careful with though, they can bend even easier

I just pulled my knob and it came off… Oooh matron !!!

Shit! Now I have to clean coffee off my screen and keyboard…

LOL ! Thanks guys.
I just pulled off the Big Main Level Knobs and they had yellowish sticky stuff holding them on. Thank god it wasn’t glue.

How do I know whether it’s a 1/4" shaft or a 1/8" shaft ?

It looks like a 1/4" to me.

Thanks again.

if you can’t tell the difference between 1/4" and 1/8"…

:stuck_out_tongue:

LOL !

I wasn’t sure if they meant width, depth, or length, etc.

I want to find some big ass machined aluminum knobs to customize my disco box.

This site ain’t to shabby :

10 PAGES of KNOBS !!!

Voice of experience: be VERY careful of large knobs! Large equals lots-of-torque. You can easily rip off the plastic shaft of potentiometers from hitting the end stops (which you don’t feel well due to the increased leverage).

But by all means go for it if this is the way you need to go, the above is just a friendly warning.

Phil.

Thanks Phil. Didn’t think about that point.

“Large Knobs will damage my disco box” That’s what she said !

Zing!

i found if you wedge a cd-r under the fader/knob, it pops it off pretty easy, try not to shatter the cd, and get plastic shards in your eye ><…
