So i just bought the vfx-1 and i havent opened it yet. But thats because i might just return it and pick up a midi-fighter…
The thing is that i dont know that the midi-fighter will run off of scratch live and i also dont know what i will be able to assign to the given buttons…
Does anybody kno about it?
Im running the vci-300
And i know midi-fighter is a product specific to this website but try to be neutral if at all possible please… lol…
do you use Serato Scratch Live AND also Serato Itch. If your just using the VCI-300 with Itch and thats all, the only think you can map to ANY midi controller thats not a certified product (in this case a midi fighter) you can ONLY map the same things that are your keyboard. So 5 hotcues.
If you want effects with the VCI-300 and Itch you have to use the VFX-1.
If you want to map things in SSL you can use a midi fighter, and now the VFX-1 is supported by both Itch and SSL.
if you want effects at all, you need the vfx-1 as it acts as a dongle to unlock effects in itch you cannot map itch’s effects section. its either the vfx-1, the nsfx or nothing.
the midi fighter can only be used with itch via keyboard shortcuts and by using automap or bomes midi translator. so basically it can only be used for cuepoints really (or anything that has a keyboard shortcut but nothing else).
im currently running both.
the s4 couldnt be mapped to do anything in itch. neither could the x1 (aside from controlling cuepoints).
it should also be noted since you have a vci-300 that if you want to delete cuepoints 4 or 5 on any track, youll need to fire up scratch live to do it as the vci-300 only has 3 cuepoint buttons. the software is free but just thought id throw that out there.
I dont use SSL or Itch but if I had an S4 and VCI300 I would all 4 channel readily available for some crazy cue jumping and layering minimal tracks. Still it’s overkill but a skillful DJ would pull some incredible stuff following that setup.
Thing is that if you want it for cue point juggling and such, just pick up a maschine on the side. It’s exactly what you want, more buttons to cue point juggle and what not. Why waste $900 on something you just want for the buttons?
I don’t know how you’d do it if you had a VCI and S4, like as far as I know you cannot use all 6 channels (can you?). And I believe that the S4 has better features in general so i’d just go with the S4 however you’d have to use Traktor with it.
I honestly thing he didn’t mean S4 but love how we’re all still advising on it.
The title of the thread is VFX-1/vs/Midi-Fighter and we’re all scratching our heads how to get a VCI-300 working with an S4 in ITCH to control 3 cue points hahahahah
