Weston Parish - Studio setup

Hey all! I am fresh to the forums here but have been a long time reader of DJTT articles and finally decided to join up.

My current setup:

2x Numark TTX
2x Numark NDX400 CDJs
1x Allen & Heath Xone:22 mixer
1x Sony MDR-V6 headphones

Not pictured:
2x monitor bookshelf speakers, 3 way
1x 60w powered sub
1x Dayton Audio APA150 power amp
1x M-Audio Trigger Finger
1x M-Audio Oxygen8 v1
Studio computer.

I will be upgrading my 2 NDX400s this coming Wednesday!! My buddy is giving me a great deal on his old Pioneer DDJ-SX and that will be replacing the majority of my mixing, aside from the turntables of course. Very excited about that, just found out today.

I plan to build or buy a stand for the SX so that I can put it over my current mixer.

Just upgraded to the DDJ-SX…

Picked this beauty up today for $350 from a good DJ buddy of mine. I feel extremely lucky as these things are at least $1,000 new. The only thing ‘wrong’ with it is a missing pitch fader slider which is easily replaceable. He happened to upgrade to the DDJ SZ (just spectacular to see in person, definitely on my future future wish list.)

Still deciding whether Traktor or Serato is going to be best with my mixing style, that remains to be seen. Not really a big fan of the Serato DJ layout so far. As a bonus, however, DJs using the DDJ SX do not have to buy/activate Serato DJ. So that’s pretty neat and cool of them to do.

From what I have experienced so far, the layout and options in front of me are perfect for my style of mixing, and I absolutely have room to grow with this setup.

Previously, I felt extremely artistically limited with Numark NDX400s (which I am selling), or a mouse/keyboard/MIDI Trigger Finger mapped to traktor’s basic faders/knobs. Totally not cutting it anymore. Extremely happy about this upgrade!

How’d you like your NDX400’s? I just want a basic pair of CDJs so I can use CDJs if I encounter them in the wild as I’m a controllerist.

Hey man!

Actually I am selling this pair, if you were in AZ I’d give you a deal.

Honestly, for me, I quickly outgrew their features. However, they are worth it to any novice DJ/bedroom setup and will allow you to ‘train’ as it were for the club CDJs as the functions and button locations are relatively similar. I used these in my studio for a while, then stepped up to CDJ2000s at a club in a fancy part of town and had no problems using them, never having used Pioneer gear before.

They are not bad in quality or by any means, the features just lacked for me. And the money you have to spend on CDJ 1000s or 2000s does not justify their features, thus me moving to a Pioneer DDJ-SX from a friend. Way better deal for the money.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about them or anything, I’d be happy to help.

Cheers
