Currently I’m running ableton live 9 suite on:
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011)
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
I’m wanting to upgrade to the newer 2015 model in march, but, I’m not sure which one would be the best one, while not buying the most expensive build. Preferably something that can handle heavy workloads, and can last me for several years, hopefully 4+ years. I just don’t want to shell out for something that’s super overpowered, when there are cheaper builds that are just as fantastic
I literally have the same exact laptop and specs as you only Im running a Samsung Evo 850 pro SSD And last night I was on it doing like 6 things at once on it and it was running smooth as a top. I looked up at my wife and said “This laptop is 6 years old and is still running like the day I got it”
All that being said, If Live is running good on our “Old” macbooks, It will do just fine on ANY 2015 machine.
Im a geek and LOVE new technology but even after 5 years, I have no interest in running out and getting a new Mac. The machines we got are just running too smooth, man.
Edit,
Only reason I was going to get a new one was because I wanted to go 17" (Im getting old…) then Apple Axed that model…
SSD all the way.
I have a 2011 MBP with essentially the same specs as yours. This thing is a champ. Never hickups on anything, even when have a bunch of programs running (granted, the only real music SW i keep open is audacity and serato dj). Only thing that has ever slowed it down was running 10 VM’s at the same time off of it. yes..10
I have a friend who got the same laptop as me less the SSD, shes already having to get the HD formatted etc all that and it still runs slow.
