What inspired you to become a DJ?

Traktor 2,5 and Pacha Buenos Aires

Always loved music but 3 years ago went “oh fuck it”, dropped my old job at a law firm and started editing music and making mixtapes for a local studio, along with dj nights (regular music to pay the bills and electronic for the love of art).

Might not be the wealthiest of my friends, but at least I’m happy doing what I love for a living.

It was the original “Cream Live” CD that opened my eyes to house music. Journeys By DJ cemented it and the Essential Mix collections expanded it.

Oh, and this guy…

I have that ‘Cream Live’ on limited vinyl. It’s been well used now and a little tatty. It’s my one regret that I never made it down to Liverpool to Cream. We were forever planning buses down there, but it always folded. At least I got to make more than a few trips out to Ibiza for the parties there.

I was going to say the Journey by DJ’s series would have finished before the Cream CD, but it seems they kept going to 2007. I did not know that.

The music, the people, the party.

Tbh… Skrillex made me want to produce, but that’s not for me. Decided to try DJing… bring huge ass tracks that I like to the party.

haha, i love that skrillex stuff, ufortunately i cant play my skrillex and ‘skrillex-like’ too often, because partyfags in my hometown understand how nice it is

I saw the movie Groove and when John Digweed dropped the track “heaven scent” I knew what I wanted to be. Then I got a jungle mixtape and fell in love with the dark side of EDM. I produce and dj mostly dubstep and dnb and love every minute of it!!!

wohooo!! skrillex FTW… Yeah… its a bit tough to try fit him into your average club gig… luckily im starting a club night soon thats nothing but Hard Electro mixed with Dubstep… what better to play than good old skrilly

One name : Ean Golden
I saw him on attack of the shows on tv and I was hooked. Then I tried production but went back to djing .

Torrented VDJ when i was 13, a music production class when i was 16, my final tune being palyed in the local club and the crowd went mental. bought traktor @ 18, now 19 and still in the bedroom :disappointed:

For me it was Tsuyoshi Suzuki.

He is a Japanese Musician. First heard his DJ sets back in the day of GoaTrance…before Psytrance appeared. He was a true deck wizard.

Then guys like Carl Cox…Qbert…

Los Angeles Underground … opened my eyes to a whole different level.

Terminator X of Public Enemy and Eric B of Eric B and Rakim…

Didn’t want to be a rapper but was well into hip hop

This

First off i had 2 good friends who were dj’s so i thought i’d give it a shot. Also, I was musically inclined but couldn’t sing and was too lazy to learn to play an instrument. So i went out and bought some gear and messed around. first gig when i was 14.

soundcloud : Dj Dynasty 17, facebook: alex djdynasty duta.

I love playing music to other people, i’ve always done it for as long as i’ve liked music.

cuz i want the bitches. My mom bought me serato so its legit. HecK i even managed to get someone else’s mixtape and put my name on it!

For me it all started two and a half years ago when I lost my sight. I spent some time looking for some new things to do and it just so happened a friend brought his laptop with VDJ to a house party. He performed and talked me through the process afterwards.

The next day I started my search for a set up I could use. I found some open source software that allowed me to do a very basic recording of 10 songs mixed together. It was nothing special just beatmatching and one song lead into the other but it was enough. The next house party I gave the mix to my DJ friend and he played it when he wanted a break, the crowd loved it, one thing lead to another and now I have Traktor.

I love to dance. Going clubbing and hearing a good DJ that makes you move till the sun comes up, is heaven. So I guess spreading the joy of shakin your ass is part of my inspiration.
The other part was hearing DJ’s mix and mash things together in new and interesting ways. Always thought it was so cool when done well.

A local DJ named Leeroy Ayala. He’s sort of retired from the business and a family friend, but I went to see him at a gig he did just because an old friend of his was putting it together. I knew him personally, but not as a DJ, and seeing him doing that really made me want to do it. Stayed in the back of my head and a few years later I actually got into it.
