What size external hd for your music?

When you guys are doing gigs, how many gigs is your hd? Do you think 1 tb is good or 2tb (maybe overkill)? Thanks

i would never do a gig with all my music on an external. too many things could go wrong.

i have 750gb internal in my optibay and all my tunes are on there…

You make a good point. Maybe I will just use my 500 gb external one for gigs. I just bought a 1 tb one. I guess I’ll just use that for my home backup. Thanks

1TB, not only music though.

Ive got my main tunes on my 250gb internal, and everything else on my 500gb external.

Unless your gigs are several days long keep it internal.

but keep a backup on an external, or only your main tunes on large usb sticks in your gig bag for redundancy in case of emergency.

1 TB Time Capsule. Reviews on it are a bit scary. Apparently some crash after 18 months. Talked to Apple tech support and they said that the problem was isolated to certain sku #'s. Like it b/c it’s a wi-fi modem/router as well and Time Machine automatically backs up your stuff to it…

I use an external for my backup. It’s saved my ass a couple times with computers in the past. I’ve been thinking about picking up a Time Machine now for my new Macbook Pro, but for now I just use a WD external.

When I bring my computer to jam out with friends, I use the internal. I could see way too many things going wrong if you were playing off an external.

That being said, I only have a 20-ish GB music library. So it’s nothing brutal to worry about compared to some. And I’m working on cutting that down and getting rid of the stuff I wouldn’t play out.

There’s something to be said for keeping things streamlined. Do you really need 500GB of music when you are going to be playing for an hour?

If you’re a mobile DJ and do weddings and events and such, and take requests, then sure. But. That’s a specific niche.

I can’t even imagine trying to keep that much music organized correctly. My brother has a 500GB HD filled, and it’s a fuck of a mess.
