What to buy: cdj 850 or 900?

Looking to get a set of cdj’s and have decided on the 850’s or the 900’s

My brother has the 850’s and I really like them so was wondering are the 900’s worth the extra £500 it would cost extra for the pair

I like the slip mode on the 900 but can’t really justify an extra £500 on that alone.

I think the display is nicer on them. 100% wide doesn’t work on mp3 from usb for 850, but does for 900. I also don’t think the 850 has link, so you have to use two usbs if you use them. I do on my 400s and its a bit annoying to manage two thumbs.

I don’t think I would ever use the wide pitch and 2 USB sticks really don’t bother me I know the display is a bit better on the 900 (I.E more lines) but even with all thos little extras I can’t convince myself to drop that extra £500

i dunno i’d give them a try. The 900s are really really nice. That would be my go to set of cdjs. But the 850s are definitely awesome as well, can’t really go wrong at that range. I think I’m upgrading to 900s, or 2000s next year.

and btw if you are thinking about using them in HID with Traktor/Serato, forget about Slip mode. :slight_smile:

I’m on my phone so I may have missed something but..

I think the main difference between the cdj 850 and 900 is the ability to quantize with the djm900 and 2000.

So I’d say go for the 850s if your not using either one of those mixers

That and the 900’s have quantized looping.

The link, quantized looping and bigger screen would make me drop the extra cash on the 900’s.

If you can afford it, 900’s. If you can’t, 850’s.

I had the 900’s, great little units, but sold Them since I wasnt making full use of the rekordbox feature, I mean I was merely using them as midi controllers to be used with traktor and I was thinking to myself “hey do I really need CDJs for this?” and sold them, bought myself a brand new MacBook pro and a traktor kontrol s4 with the money I got from selling them off , not a bad trade I’d say!

If you plan to use software altogether with the CDjs I’d say get the 850s as you won’t really use the extra features anyway
