Didn’t see a particular recent thread about what is a good price for a set currently so I just made this. Been looking on craigslist and ebay and have been seeing prices at 700+ for a pair. I saw a pair of black mk2’s for $850 in pretty damn good condition. Anyone think this is too much, or would you jump on it? In my opinion it’s too much but that might just me be…
I agree with your pricing JesC. Good prices for none modded Techs. Too bad douche bags are selling M5Gs for $1k each. I just picked up a pair of MK5s for $650. A few months ago I got a pair of MK2s for $200, and a year ago I found a pair of M3Ds for $600. If you are willing to wait, you can find a deal.
I’ve just bought a pair of 1210MKII’s in mint condition for £300. Last week I bought a beat up pair of 1210’s for £250.
You have to make sure you know what you’re getting. Some come without lids/hinges/carts/headshells/needles, etc… My £300 pair had hinges, dust covers, original (Technics) headshells and Ortofon Pro S carts/needles. My £250 pair came with one stock headshell and one generic (rubbish!) one. Both came with Stanton 505 carts and needles, though. The £250 pair is in pretty rough condition (dust/grime, etc..) and were bought as a resto/mod project. The £300 pair are in great condition - so I’ll probably leave 'em stock.
Of course - the other option is to sell 'em both and get some MK5G’s…
My 1210MK5’s I picked up for $600… But I waited a long time and jumped on that deal as soon as I could. If you don’t need them right away, give it some time.
For the Mk2’s, $850 is reasonable if they are in really nice shape and come with decent cartridges. But a great deal? Definitely not.
I think I paid around $650 for my mk2s, which I feel is pretty damn high…but they came with some slight modifications and set up by a shop near here with something resembling a warranty. So, it wasn’t too bad. I think they actually owe me an LED conversion (didn’t have the right color at the time) that I should probably see about…but…meh. There’s no reason for a target light if you’re spinning DVS. I’ll wait until I have enough new vinyl to actually spin a set.
I’d sell them and pay $800-1000 for a pair of m5gs, but other than that, I’m not upgrading.
Well I waited and soon enough I found a pair of black mk2’s for $400 off craigslist They’re quite dusty and dirty but everything functioned pretty well. I thought it was gonna be a junk pair but I just gotta shine em up a bit…
I wouldn’t pay more than a few hundred dollars for a set of TT’s. In fact I sold one of mine recently and only have one now so I can rip stuff when needed.
Yeah I just picked up a pair of 1200 mk2 for 400, beat up, missing parts but overall functionally. I am just missing the feat, dust covers. One pitch is a little gunked up (Tried spraying fader lube in but no luck yet), and kinda scratched up. Hopefully gonna try to refurb them.
The only things mine were missing were the 45 adapters and the dust covers, but I’m not too worried about those items. Mine are just realllyyyy dirty and I need to research on how to take them apart to clean real good. I’ll probably change out the pitch faders/dust catchers and get custom led’s. Everything worked without any problems though. I think I saw the pair that you got off craigslist I almost got those ones actually.
