Whats the best MIDI Controller to get?

Whats the best MIDI Controller to get?

Hey everyone!!!

I really want to start focusing on becoming a good DJ, and wanted to get your advice on what you think the best controller would be for me to get that i could use in clubs and gigs. Something not massively expensive though.

Few things;

I DJ through Traktor
Mix Electro and Fidget!!
Currently use a korg nano control and an akai lpd8.

My mate who is exactly like me (in the sense that he likes what i like music wise and does things through traktor), uses an akai apc40…and says i should get that. But im thinkin maybe i want something with jog wheels. Maybe i should wait for the S4?

Anyway, any advice you can give me would be great.

Thanks.

Sam

S4 would be awesome. Can’t go wrong with a VCI-100 and you can find them used for about half of what an S4 sells for.

jog wheels are absolutely unnecessary for that style of music so you’ll be fine with an x1.

Unless of course you like to use the jogs for FX and scrubbing through tracks

Fair enough. But in my honest opinion you really don’t need jogs for scrolling through tracks. An endless encoder is fine for that. So that only leaves the fx and with some clever mapping you can achieve good enough results with faders etc.

@photojojo…cheers man, wheres good to get a vci 100 for a good price?

@Sanderbongertman…yeah know what u mean, suppose if was mixing more hip hop tracks then jog wheels would be more necessary right?

Exactly. I don’t think there are any people scratching with EDM.

Here’s a few in the for sale forum

Very true, it all boils down to personal preference with this kind of thing.

Jogs just feel natural when scrubbing through tracks. I don’t no why people feel like there unnecessary.

i agree, i got the numark mixdeck and the jog wheels are really intuitive and useful. I use a shift modifier and use the wheels to mix FX. Sometimes i make my self manually beatmatch so when i use my vinyls it sounds better.
