There is no right answer to this question. A controller doesn’t help you produce any specific genre. You could produce psy trance with your keyboard and mouse.
I fully agree with this. Find something that fits your workflow.
Some basic software-based suggestions would be :
A keyboard controller for melody parts
Pad/drum controller for rhythm parts
Control surface (faders and knobs/rotary encoders) for mixing
Hardware/software synths for noise making
Typically arpeggiator
Typically delay
Typically some pots and pans to bang on
to be honest laptop soundcard and monitors and midi keyboard is whats needed …(daw is i guess in your laptop)
everything else comes after… monitors are very important cause if it dosent sound good than it wont be listned too… usually having 2 very different sounding minitors is a help… i am planning to buy a big speaker now to go with my monitor so i can have that club sound(trust me things get overblown on those compare to small studio monitors)… so having both helps fix issues that might arrise
If you can drop the cash on it, I’d say an Ableton Push is a great piece of gear for a studio setup. But the APCs would be more for playing live I think. The MPK is also a great studio piece. Somthing with a keyboard would be best. The Lauchpad Pro is pretty good too. It also has a chromatic notes.
