who has the korg zero

who has the korg zero

hey guys im thinking on picking up a korg zero 8 again but this time is to control ableton i want to know who has one that can give me some cons and pro about it before i buy it thanks

just read a hefty review on the zero4, as i’m thinking of picking one up. apparently it’s got a “bucketload” of features, the only con the author wrote about was the build quality being questionable (plastic pots).

http://www.skratchworx.com/reviews/zero4.php

My little brother had the KorgZero8 that he ran three turntables, Ableton, Serato, An Akai MPD.

He enjoyed it, and could do some wicked Scratch/Dubstep routines, but he eventually traded the Zero8 in and picked up the Vestax VCM600.

I picked up a Zero 4 recently because of the massive price drop and feature list. I only have a few complaints, and nothing about the build quality. When people describe the build quality of the Zero line in reviews, they seem to liken the Zero to being similar to a korg padKontrol, all plastic, very cheap, when in fact, it’s really sturdy. Yes it has plastic pots. Don’t hit them with hammers when you’re playing and they won’t snap off, pretty simple.
Only complaints are:
-There is a quick drop in audio when switching inputs from Firewire audio, to audio+midi, to midi only.
-the Sampler isn’t very useful for more than 1 shots
-the BPM detection when not receiving a master clock externally isn’t very accurate.

Wise man :stuck_out_tongue: thats what would do

yea i like the vcm alot but at that price i prefer the zero 8…u know im on a budget and im looking in ways to save up

Yeah he really enjoys his set up now, running Serato through Ableton to live loop his scratch routines while mashing up various dubstep etc… tracks.

man tell your brother to contact me lol he would be the perfect guy that i need to talk to to help decide between the vcm or the zero 8 lol

Ive also had a zero 4 for a while now, all Phaidons complaints are valid, other than that it is a very versatile and nice to use mixer.

I have the Zero4.

If something happens and your Firewire connection severs, it’s a pain in the ass to get any audio up and running again. Including regular cd’s. So be careful.

I need a Zero 8 for my new band, i need control over all my synths, my rhodes, my bass, and ableton. So i think the Zero 8 will be perfect for this. The only ableton controls i really need on it are the level’s and eq’s, because my midi controller will handle everything else. Plus it will really help when recording demos, as i’ll be able to control input levels, and all of the digital effects on one board.

THe knobs are plastic and flimsy. Just an fyi.

i got zero 8 and i like it so far ia havent used it with ableton because the one that it comes with sucks, waiting for ableton 8.
but its wicked shit though

I think the zero 8 is the way to go is affordable and all in one is what I need thanks everyone I was thinking on the xone 3d but I read a lot of problems with it

I would honestly go with the VCM - 600 from Vestax if all you want the mixer for is controlling Ableton.

Unless you are planning on using it to route some audio through it into ableton from tables/cdj/somesource then the Zero4/Zero8 would be a good choice. Yet the same can be achieved through other configurations.

Uhh…there’s no soundcard as part of the VCM-600. Kinda defeats the point.

good point!

but what is he using as the sound card now?

the original statement was… “but this time is to control Ableton”.

Which actually does not defeat the point.

I just viewed it as an all-in-one solution. I understand your view.
