Who’s buying the S4 Case?
I know theres too many S4 threads on here already. But I have been on edge about buying the case for the S4 sence it’s been in the techtools shop. Right now I feel like I spent enough money, but I am not sure if I should buy the case or not. Am I just giving into the hype or is it worth the extra cash?
If you buy it I don’t think you’ll regret it. If you do though you can sell it to someone that regrets not buying it.
Hmm.. Initially I wanted to get one - But i’m having my doubts now as I don’t know if i’ll be able to use it at clubs. The Laptop part goes outwards and booths are soo cramped..
The laptop stand would be my one gripe 2. I don’t like having the laptop directly in front of my line of sight. It doesn’t bode well for your brand recognition when people look at you and just see a laptop where your face should be.
Im getting it just for the fact that it will be the perfect protection for the S4.
I doubt ill use it as a stand when i gig, certainly not at my current gigs and i too dont like havning the laptop in front of me, although ill use it as a stand in my studio.
S4 is pretty sturdy but i just dont feel comfortable using any kind of bag.
Its definetly not like the VCI which ive thrown in the VCI softcase and in the backpack.
The VCI is bombproof in comparison.
There’s no info on this case, besides the picture and the price. There are no dimensions, no high-res pictures, no video demonstrating it - just what NI published with the announcement.

The S4 is with the case and it’s visible how close the laptop shelf is to the EQs. I’m also concerned with the angled sliding rails of the shelf - they are on the hand’s way when moving aside from the controller (the upper part). Hate to be pessimistic, but I literally “project” the pain in my fingers :eek: just while speaking of it. May not be an issue though, i don’t know …
I think it’s wise to wait with the case purchase until a video review is available or you can touch it yourself in some retail shop. There will be lot of new products for carrying an S4 in the following few months. Building a custom case is also an option. Why rush?
For now, I hope for one thing (which is very unlikely) - NI to pack the retail package with a custom piece of foam (similar to this) which will:
a) elevate it to standard equipment hight, when put below
b) protect the jogs, the faders and the knobs when put on top (for transportation)

That foam would be to soft to use it to elevate the SM to equipment height. And even if you did manage to get it up that high on it would bounce like crazy on that foam. Some type of custom molded deal would be cool though.
I’m going to get it, I really like the design and it looks like it’s nice and sturdy… I doubt I’d use it at a club for the reasons above…might be good for the house party though

Its got the same indents on the ball corners. The S4 case is obviously made to measure.
I asked the Magma guy about the S4 case at BPM but he didnt know about it. Still, id bet its the same case.

Also if you buy the case from DJ TT. Your S4 won’t ship till mid Nov. with the case itself. But thats not so much a big deal.
I was thinking maybe decksaver + big bag. But my problem is that when I get it I will be gigging with it ASAP so maybe the case is the best option…
Are you getting yours from DJTT?
Whats your deal? S4 and Case. How will that pan out, are they sending the S4 with when the case arrives. I guess sending both separately would be costly in shipping.

The only that ive seen that the S4 fits in is the North Face bag i have. Its a tight fit though and offers no protection at all.
Protection in transport is my main issue, hence the flight case.
i’m getting the case, still not sure about the controller or just wait for the software update hinted at in the NI FAQ pages.
but i figure the case would make a cool lunch box for work…

Karlos, you’re very close with the assumption for the Magma case for VCI-300 + VFX-1 - it looks identical. Probably it would be a little bit different due to:
I’m not sure how much I like the sliding shelf - it adds weight and size to the case. Also these angled rails concern me … Probably I’ll go for a simple custom made case. It would also be much cheaper. Screen infront … nah, no need …
Being an optimist, I still hope for a custom made foam in the package to provide basic protection for the controlls. If it’s the proper density and stiffness, it will be usable for elevation - don’t think it will bounce back that much considering how large the contact surface will be on the bottom side.
Yeah the dimensions of the VCI 300 case are not the same as the S4 case for sure.
The S4 case also has velcro straps to hold the laptop in place.
Also i believe that the sliding lid has foam underneath it that secures the S4 in place when in transit.
Not sure about the elevation thing though???
that with the foam is my dream of NI shipping the S4 retail package with a piece of custom foam, which will be usable for top controlls protection (when in a bag) and also for elevation of the unit when below
just in my dreams, I guess, but would be nice. especially the protective part of the idea
Screw it I just bought it. I plan on having this controller for a long time which is the only reason for buying the case and keeping it protected right away.

I recieved my S4 recently and I ordered my case shortly after on October 26th. I was wondering when the flight case will be shipped. I read in the techtools store that they will ship out no later than Nov. 19th as in tomorrow. Does anyone know of any information regarding this?
Saw this on a dutch website, http://www.aboutdj.nl/nieuws/1471-prodjuser-kontrol-s4-flightcase.html will come in January.
I will wait for a good professional bag in combination with decksavers, Still got an old mixer bag from gigskinz might just fit or not. Still waiting for the S4 to arrive.
