Why no KEYS ???
My Mixmeister Pro 6 that I got back in 2007 actually tells me the KEY of each track. What’s the fascination with Mixed In Key ??? Why can’t Traktor do this yet ?
I think one major barrier for key detection integration is that all key-detection software is unreliable. Check out DJTTs comparison.
Traktor probably could do it if it was something that people wanted as a feature.
If more people requested it maybe NI would implement it but as it stands its not a hugely popular feature request.
Thats not to say that people dont request it, just not that many.
And be careful using mixmeisters key detection, its 70% accurate at best.
That DJTTs article shocked me. In fact i think it shocked everyone.
Personally… i could care less about harmonic mixing. Im sure it sounds great but i dont think i ever see DJs that do it.
Some peeps live for MIK etc and thats cool.
Dude, go to a show where Sasha is performing, thats some harmonic mixing at its finest, or check out Northern Exposure 2 East Coast. When it comes to blending melodies and crafting sets, Sasha is the fucking man.
MIK approached him to see if he would endorse, he turned it down and simply stated “already know it and do it” lol.
Yeah man seen him numerous times. I do get the whole harmonic thing i just dont tend to go to see DJs that do it. I know it can sound really good but the music has to lend itself to being mixed like that.
I guess its either a big part of what someone does or not part of it at all.
Obviously any good DJ should know a little about harmony or at least be able to hear when it totally wrong in the mix.
As a guitar player all my life i can hear it. You can certainly hear when someone has no idea that 2 tunes simply clash and is just matching beats.
I use VDJ and have found it gives me the correct key about 75% of the time. It’s kinda useful, but I find myself relying more on my ears anyway.

To me is like keylock, it’s so bad and unreliable that either improves with the time or I won’t never use it.

I had 8 years of music theory and playing lessons…various instruments.
You CAN hear this by ear…and that’s kinda what i been doing until now.

Keylock is not in any way unreliable. It does what it says on the box. Key detection is another matter altogether.
It’s pretty easy to figure out if the two songs work harmonically just by ear. But if you’re putting together a mix or something, I can see how this would be helpful.
