I’m looking around the web for some kind of USB port that connects wirelessly so that I can have a controller without a cable. I know there are such things but I’m at a loss for what to look for – “usb wireless” searches all bring up network adapters. I’m just looking for the ability to plug in a dongle and have a battery powered unit to plug into. Any ideas?
Thanks for the quick reply! That helps but all the ones that are hubs have plug-in power sources; they seem to be made for both parts to be stationary. Know of any that are battery powered?
you can get one of those wireless chargers (like the one from energizer) and find a tip that fits
i dont know if this will work on any of the things because
a) i cant see if the power cord is detachable
B) what the part you plug the power into looks like
C) clicking on that google link simply takes me to google uk, so i dont even know what the usb thing like like
Well, there’s no benefit to getting a wireless hub if I have to plug it in – I’d just be substituting one wire for another one It’s weird, they make wireless mouses and keyboards that communicate to a USB dongle via IRDa, why wouldn’t there be a more open interface that does the same thing? Can’t find that sort of thing anywhere though hrmmmm…
Alright just a heads up: even though they are thought to be “high speed” you can never rely on them like you would with a normal usb cable. If I were you I would use the standard usb cable. :d
I doubt it exists too. you need quite a bit of power to power a controller. And a few batteries wouldn’t power for more the a couple of hours. Sooo, I doubt somebody would make that type of things
Also keep in mind that the unit has two jobs (requires more energy). It has to recieve a signal wirelessly and send it back out wirelessly which is too much for batteries.
Yeah it’s for a custom build; I am thinking about just building a battery pack for the thing. I basically just want a wireless midifighter (though I’m planning to add a few other things to it); no reason this should require extensive battery power. I have a video game controller that runs off a battery and sends a signal to a USB dongle; why would a controller be so much different? I think the problem is theres just not enough need for such a thing so nobody’s bothered developing them. But before bluetooth there was an array of keyboards, mice, and pointers that communicated to the USB port in the same way, so there’d be no reason there couldn’t be one with a port on the other end instead of a mouse or whatever.
That would do the trick except I need to convert the midifighter information from USB to MIDI first? I guess I could get a USB to MIDI cable? Seems like an expensive and assbackwards solution; that midiair alone is $100. I’m going to have to give this some more thought…
