Write tags to file?

Write tags to file?

Hi guys, wondering if anybody can help me an organisational issue.

I’ve been using Traktor for a long time, and have just made the switch to Ableton - i’ve been attempting to re-organise my library for some time now, using a mixture of Audiofinder, Beatunes and Rapid Evolution 3 and have most my ID3 tags sorted.

But since Live doesn’t read ID3 tags this was all a bit of a waste it now seems, so i was wondering if there is any way to write the BPM/KEY/ARTIST/TITLE to the actual file name E.g 174_Em_Logistics - City Life.flac or something similar?

Cheers if anybody can help.

i know you have that option in mixed in key to change the song title itself, maybe RE does a similar thing.

Trainspotter?

RE3 doesn’t seem to, checked all the documentation and couldn’t find anything.

Can’t find anything about trainspotter writing to file names either, doesn’t seem too well documented.

So MIK can write what i want to the actual file extensions? If so would be worth the cash just for that.

yeah you can add the bpm and key info to the actual title, maybe handy in your case.

Cheers guys think it will have to be MIK then, worth the money since that will save me A LOT of time when prepping tracks and clips.

If you’ve got a mac, iTag is free software which can rewrite your song name based on name, artist etc.

I do this.

Don’t spend any money yet…

Download MP3Tag for PC (it’s free):

You can then select all of your files that you want to change the filenames on, and select:

Convert Tags to Filename

You can even specify what order the tags appear in the filename, it’s a great bit of software, and one that I wouldn’t be without.

(The way I use it (opposite to how I’ve just suggested you do it), is to check all of my keys/bpm’s with MIK, have MIK write the key/bpm to the filename, then use MP3Tag to convert the filename to tags).
