Just got rid of 4 MK2’s for more controllers lololol
Pro Tip: Always keep a handkerchief in your back pocket for when it suddenly hits you, and break down crying at the loss of your decks. It will happen, I promise. ![]()
You will regret that in about 4-6 months, I promise.
jealous. I’ve been in the hunt for a pair to complement my whole set up.
I did that.
Never again.

Nahh, I might get a Mixtrack or a Vestax controller… Maybe an Ns7…
Besides the 1200’s don’t have near as much torque as newer tables.
Sigh
Out with the old, in with the new, my freind.
It’s a shame so many have trouble understanding this concept…
Go look at my setup thread and try that one again. A Mixtrack doesn’t even begin to compare.
Before this becomes “fun” I think the point being made is that many of us came from “the old” but have been deeply immersed in the new for a good while and while there are plenty of advantages with the new technology, there is an increasing pattern of DJs simply getting more satisfaction from turntables/CDJs. There is a also a large # of people on this forum (myself included) who sold their original turntables and sincerely regretted that decision. I decided to get another set of Technics as that was what I wanted for my set up. I also have the Kontrol S4 and other midi controllers so its not about "new versus old at all, there are just an awful lot of people who laughed their decks out the door and then felt like chumps a year or two later…
Yeah, looked. So why did you go back to Techs lol?
Stanton’s are better…
I never sold mine. Never came close, not even when i was amassing a STUPID amount of midi gear.
Do I win a special hat or some kind of commemorative plaque ? ![]()
Welcome home Smittten
go away
QFT. Except I got rid of all of my MIDI gear that was worth selling. I still have an LPD8 that probably isn’t going to get used again and that M-Audio 2-channel mixer thing that looks like a 4-channel mixer…but I used it to record exactly one demo with Traktor, put it back in the box, and bought a real mixer…
The computer thing definitely has it’s advantages with regard to cost, ease, and transportability…but IMHO, it’s not worth it. USB Keys + Vinyl FTW.
I went back to techs because of two things:
1 - Beat matching with SSL is easier and less stressful than setting beat grids. If I could have afforded Techs, CDJs, and an MPC or Octatrack, I would have ditched the computer for DJing entirely…that’s what I’m working towards, though I’d have to be a regularly gigging/touring pro with no other job to give a shit about owning CDJs at home. I can spin on them just fine.
I’ve done the computer DJing thing; I have a degree and went back for a CS degree; I’m a Linux and OS X power user; and all that has taught me is that I kind of hate computers for music. They’re insanely powerful and inexpensive. I’ll use them as long as I need to, but I’m pretty sure the end goal is to either use Pro Tools as basically nothing but a tape machine or replace it too with some kind of standalone digital multitrack recorder…and do everything with a sequencer, hardware synths, a few pieces of outboard gear, and an analog board…and record to either a standalone 2-track recorder or Pro Tools through a really nice ADC depending on budget.
Maybe if I abandon the CS thing, I’ll stop hating computers for anything but organization and communication.
2 - Stantons are not better by any stretch of the imagination. They have more features, certainly. Internal preamps are big, because you don’t have to worry about the quality of the preamp in your DJ mixer (which very wildly). Higher torque…meh, but enough better scratchers than me like it that I’m willing to concede that point if that’s what you do. And some of them are actually still made, though that won’t matter until people sell out of NOS…and probably not 'till long after.
But, I’ve mixed (at least briefly) on T120cs, STR8-150s, ST.150s, and older versions of the 150s from when they were blue (before Stanton changed their banding to look like Fisher Price’s “Pro” Audio division. Nothing feels like a Technics, and I’ll use them–at least at home–as long as I’m DJing. The only upgrade–on that side–I’m considering is a trio of M5Gs, and I’ll do that whenever I can afford them.
You do in my book.
Yeah there’s no way I’m letting you keep that Pikachu doll, sorry.
I’ll start chipping some off my teeth for you now.
