Each it’s own workflow buddy. I’m not saying it’s the best one, not that I’ll keep it AS-IS either, for now I’m happy like that, and I agree it’s overkill… but I like the fact I have everything available at once, in double or triple places 
S4/x1 (and now midifighter) controlling traktor → sound to ableton w mpk and apc 40 controlling that → sound back out through the s4.

None of them gave me any hickups after 2 years.
I assume you run just one channel (main out) to ableton via jack osx or soundflower? I would kill to be able to route each deck separately to ableton but still use the s4 in internal mixer mode. No clue why they don’t let you do this.
Your setup is very similar to mine. I like.
