What he actually said, kind of ironic.

Curious if 2.5 is going to be a free upgrade or not… Haven't been doing this long enough to have a gauge on NI's track record with that.http://www.ihatespam.info/huang3.jpg...
I don't have any first hand experience with the software, but my guess is it will be the same as it is now. You'll have a button dedicated to certain slots and when you get the remix deck setup like you want it you'll have another command to save the whole set. I do know from the NI site that the remix set then takes up one line just like a track so when you load it into a deck it loads it as saved.
The way I prep a song now I set intro and outro loops and of I find some other element in a song that I like I'll make a loop out of it so i can quickly grab it when i load the track in a deck. It would be really nice if I can tie a remix set to a specific track so that when I load a track in deck A it loads the remix deck tied to that track in Deck C if C is set as a remix deck. Now that I've said that I'm not sure I like that idea.
this is what i'd like to do but don't think you can? i.e: program a few beats live and then have that mini-sequence playback and loop using those samples. like having the a kick play on beats 1+5 and then a snare on 3 or something. this would be treading on maschine's functionality i guess?
You can use the slot size x2 command to increase the slot size. So if you have a clap you want to here at a certain point, load it into the sample deck, increase the slot size to how much space you want between claps, then activate it at the point you want to here it. Then let it play through.
This is all on page 278 of the Traktor 2 Bible :)
after reading more i really like the ableton-ness of being able to have 4x16 clips per remix deck. using those for decks C+D will be plenty... only one clip playing per slot is very cool as well. probably to reduce complexity in the playback engine and mapping but is also in the style of ableton.
can't wait to find out more about mapping it and whether it's easy to map a controller with a 4x4 grid to the sample slots and have traktor handle scrolling and led output or whether the actual controller needs to do some of that, i.e: emulating a 4x16 grid controller.
i'll definitiely be finishing the live sequencer inside midimasher to use with this ;)
Everyone seems pretty exicted about the new Remix Decks, but for me, I'm keen on the new beatgridding system - NI seems to be catching up with Serato and having better grids.
NI were the ones who had the beatgrids to start, yes they may not have warping grids but ableton 8 is pretty damn quick at fixing those things. I think once these are released you'll see way more sample deck usage. I always found it way too cumbersome to load samples in slot by slot.
Photojojo, do you know how exactly the punch mode works, it sounds like Ableton where it'll launch clips by a quantized unit. Also has there been new quanitze values added. It'd be awesome to have 1/8 or 1/16 values for quickly throwing in claps and hats.
i thought punch mode was for switching to a different sample not from the start but from the same amount into the sample as the current one. kind of like an old school 'punch' when recording on a multi track tape machine -ish.
