priority #1 is getting to know your tracks. improving your mixing and so on.
and last but not least: please please please don´t do it for the fame. do it for the love of music. craving for things like money and fame will only lead you to the dark side and we all know what happens, once you´re there
I know dude. Hell, I would do any gig for free. I just want to have that first experience to DJ at a party. But im going into high school, so hopefully that will open the doors a little more.

If kids see that I actually have some form of DJ equipment then I know they would let me play. I know that what it sounds like im saying is that there going to let me in just because i have a S2. But what im saying is they would know I take it seriously enough to actually buy a mixer, get a macbook and show up.
damn, is this how kids think these days...look man, a lot of the above replys gave you good advice and I'll just briefly add to it. If you really want gigs, post a 30 minute mix and I like the idea of putting posters around your school to get people to wonder whats going on. They'll see it, go to the link, and if its good they'll listen. Ya, they might think its weird that a kid in their school is putting up posters of his Dj mix but to say that you wont do it because they'll consider you as a "try to hard" is just fuckin stupid (and I mean that in the nicest way possible).

In life, to succeed, you want, no, YOU NEED people to think/know you're a try to hard. Employers find it endearing that you will go out on a limb to put yourself out there. I also agree that you shouldnt worry about gigs until you're 18 though (besides house parties thats all good and should be fun). But practice your brains out for the next 4 years and by the time you are 18 you will be getting club gigs that are 21+ and you'll really start to make a name for yourself.

put yourself out there. work hard. and please please please, dont give a second thought to what everyone thinks about you. You might not get it now, but when youre in your 20s you wont give a rats ass about everyone thinks besides employers/fans.

If i were u i would open up a mixcloud acc, download a variety of tracks and do a hour mix in as many genres that u like. Try to do a bit more then dubstep....once u have done a few hour long mixes, then people can analyze how well u peform in long periods of time. The reason u do this is because if the only mix u have is a dubstep mix, and if im not a big fan of dubstep, then im not gonna hire u for the night...but if i can c that ur capable of doing a genre that i enjoy for my party imma hire u.

sure man! if you´re really into it and willing to sacrifice yourself by being patient, gigs will come. don´t rush and don´t give up to fast if things don´t work out the way you wanted them.

it just funny see a young ppl does this day.. DJ is a passion of music that you love. not about getting gig, or famous.. even tho' everybody want to perform, gigs not come by it self..

another suggestion is make like 30-60 minute mix, burn it to cd, put your phone no, facebook, soundcloud and give it to your friends..

DJing is all about gigs and playing for people. But I agree with making a longer mix. I just dont know what songs I should mix to attract people to hire me for their partys
