If you are like me and want a laptop only for music production / internet surf. Then you can buy a macbook and start dj'ing right when you un package it from the box. You can literally buy a macbook pro and mixer go to your gigg. un package it all and start a party within minutes. Mac users only get Mac applications though and this eats at people.

Windows you can download any 3rd party applications which makes it nice. You have more at your finger tips.
I agree with what has been posted above. I've had zero crashes on my MBP. They always let you know on software updates. Its quick & safe. No viruses, no latency. Internet is smooth. I personally will never go back to a windows operating system i'm in love with this .

Thank you jesus for providing osx to the world XD
I think you've been drinking the kool aid for too long, or simply have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm a hardcore mac user at home and for music. Just so we're clear I'm not slagging on OSX.

To start, you can't DJ on a macbook right out of the box. It doesn't come with software for that. If you're talking about buying an MBP and a hardware controller, you can do that with a windows box, too. Mac users only get mac applications but windows users only get windows applications so this is a moot point? Likewise mac users can download 3rd party applications. Traktor, Live, Renoise, Rekordbox, etc. are all 3rd party. It's a platform. If it's built for mac, it works on a mac. If it's built for windows, it works on windows. There's plenty of mac-exclusive stuff windows folks want and vice versa and there's lots of stuff that's cross platform.

There ARE viruses for macs, there's just less proliferation at the moment because they have a vastly smaller market share. They do crash (and kernel panic, which is the same thing as a BSOD on the windows side) and I've had this happen at gigs a few times (and in the studio.) Windows lets you know about software updates, too, and is in fact so persistent and annoying about it as to be legendary. You don't get the benefit of being notified about software updates from anything other than OS-level software and stuff bought from the app store, i.e. all pro audio software save for logic. Latency is largely dependent upon your specific hardware configuration, and even though CoreAudio seems more efficient than ASIO to me I don't think you can reasonably call 'low audio latency' an inherent feature of OSX. Internet is smooth means nothing.

Went digging through your posts to see if you could possibly be serious from another thread. Think you gotta spend some time doing a lot less talking and a lot more listening, that way you won't waste people's time making nonsense posts.

lol, these software and os updates are so legendary you will need to reboot your computer!

xp: "would you like to reboot now or be reminded to reboot at a later time?"
user: later would be better for me, thanks windows!
xp: ok, it's been several minutes, you should really reboot...or i can remind you again later.
user: uh, yeah xp, i'm right in the middle of this, can you please just remind me later.
xp: hey...hey...it's me again...5 mins has come and gone and you really need to reboot...
    xp: for real...reboot...for real
xp: hellllllllloooooo? hi? hey? hello? are you ignoring me?
xp: well, i guess i'm just gonna set this force reboot timer for a few minutes unless you want another reminder.
    user: i hate you...

love ArchLinux on my cheap/old acer laptop and also love OS/X on my mbp. don't even mind win7 or xp too much but haven't had any need to boot to those since getting my mbp.

Comparing a MAC to a PC is like comparing a Dog to a Cat...they both have 4 legs a mouth and a tail...but other than that they are 2 totally different creatures.

In order for you to be able to properly compare the 2 you need to be able to compare Everything in the same light.

comparing a 300 dollar acer laptop to a 2500 mpb makes ZERO sense.

Now compare something like an Alienware to a mac makes more sense...I bet 99.5% of the people who are bitching about PCs have not spent the large amount of money they spent on their macbooks.

I have both a 2010 MBP and a Alienware M15x. To this day my M15x still blows my MBP outta the water when it comes to raw specs and overall power.

The MBP is nice because its simple and user friendly...but it is just so limiting in what i can do. Developers are slowly coming around and adding more programs for macs...but they are still limited.

The way i see it...PCs are like Big Trucks...that can do anything go anywhere and accomplish pretty much anything you want....where as a Macbook is like a sports car...yes its nice and everything works well..but you are limited to where you can go and what you can do in your sports car.

Aside from gaming (a substantial gap) what else can't you do on OSX that you can do on Windows?

not sure if you're referring to me mentioning an acer laptop or not - but before that i pretty much only used thinkpads and my view was exactly the same. windows when i really had to and linux for everything else. i'd only ever choose to run windows if the app i wanted to use would only run on it, i.e: wouldn't even run under wine (which has come a long way the last few years)
