    Default Epic Jogwheel Effect mapping?

So today I have been wondering about a jogwheel mapping that in theory sounds pretty cool but don't know if anyone has attempted it. I personally don't have a controller with jogwheels but i'm seriously considering borrowing a friend's controller to explore this idea.

Maybe this has been done before but the idea is you map the jogwheels to have one effect combo when you move it one way and a different one when you move it the opposite way and once you let go it resets. I imagine you would use this to build and then drop tension.

I don't know, what you guys think? I'll probably experiment with this idea as soon as i can borrow a compatible controller.

    Hi,

I am working on such a mapping. I now have 3 FX modes and have a possible 7 I could create. I'll be releasing the 4.2 before Christmas. It is still very beta, even though I am up to Version 4. Creating this mapping is a learning process for me. It will also be missing some serious documentation, when I release the next version. But if you want to keep track, here is the current version.

I wouldn't say my 3 effects are "epic" effects, but they are fun.

    Scamo,

I might have read it incorrectly, but your mapping has two different states for the jogwheels?

or is it as I envisioned to be where moving the jogwheel one direction triggers a chain and the opposite triggers a different one?

I can't try it out since my set up is without jogwheels, but I will this weekend once I borrow my friends controller.

I am also interested in this, I ve mapped single fx dry/wet (relative & fader or knob) to both jogwheels, but actually using it is a pain in the ass, its far from accurate.
How do you suggest you map it ?

Well, not quite. My mapping has a possible 7 "states" or modes as I call them, which are selectable on the fly. My first FX grouping has a beatmasher and a peakfilter. The beat masher has a very sensitive jog, so short movements makes the effect amount move alot. The peak filter is set to maximum and has a very slow jog movement. This gives you the ability to beatmash in one direction, but then do a slow wash with the peak filter in the other. Not exactly what you are looking for, but sort of.

If you could give me an example of effects you'd want to go with in one direction of the jog and then the other, I'll see if I can put it together. Please also remember, my mapping only works with the S4. So you couldn't just plug any controller up and it would work. It won't.

I was trying to do a similar thing in my current Mixtrack mapping quest.. hahha, but I can't really realize how to do it well..

In one way, lets say clockwise, the modifier should enter in a loop, so if you turn the wheel clockwise, the modifier would stay in one set of modifiers values, keeping the current FX Combo Setup... but when you start rotating counter-clockwise the modifier enter in an other loop, staying in an other set of modifiers values, changing the FX Combo Setup.

Is the only way I can think of right now (3.31 AM here..) but that would limit the posible FX Combos...

Maybe using a touch sensitive wheel, as for the buildups use the top of the wheel, and when releasing, activate an other set of effects for the drop, using the side of the wheel to bring down the DRY/WET... that should be done with a hold or invert value for the top of the wheel and some modifiers...I think.

There isn't any way to tell Traktor which direction the jog is being turned, so this idea is generally quite difficult to do with just the jog encoder. I was thinking more along the lines of....

touch the jog once, start an effect group and by turning the jog in one direction makes the effect amounts change accordingly, then release and touch the jog once again to change the effects grouping, then turn the jog in the other direction to change the amounts of the new effects accordingly. That should be doable and actually quite easy. I just don't know what effects are wanted.
