My only question is how do you turn an S4 into an effects tool for vocals? Routing the mic through it? I mean, you can't do effects to the mic input, can you, other than through the loop recorder. Right?

You'll definitely have to loose a deck for live vocal input that is meant to be processed with effects if you want to record internally.
Another workaround would be routing vocals into Ableton Live or another VST host and processing the vocals with Traktor's 12, a bunch of Traktor's effects being sold seperately. Then you would record vocals seperately in Ableton and your 4-deck mix in Traktor. This would require some work after having finished the mix though. Just a workaround which I wouldn't prefer over loosing a deck in Traktor.
