Would this work on a 2008 macbook (white) ?

Probably, but check out amazon/newegg for reviews just to make sure.

I just put a crucial m4 in my 2008 macbook yesterday, works great.

Since the 2008 macbook only has SATA 1, it only gets about a 50% increase in HD speed with the SSD, but that’ enough to hold me for another year or two.

Just make sure that you have a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a Torx T6 screwdriver handy.

Also manually select the startup disk in System Preferences after the install to ensure a fast bootup time (it cut mine in half)

My experience with Apple is they are not very nice when it comes to upgrades, it cost me $200+ to put an SSD in my 2009 Macbook Air as I could only use a few different brands due to size and plug formats.

That said I think the Air is a lot more difficult to upgrade due to space issues.

Just be safe and check online for others experience with it.

that damn star screw! ugh. when i had a mac and my hdd died it was quite a pain to get it out to replace it. that screw is in such an awkward spot and of course they can’t just use a regular phillips.

How are you guys using SSD’s? JUST for tour OS/system files - or for your music storage too?

The Airs and the Retina Pro are the only ones that are going to be like that……at least for now. I’ve literally not given it a second thought with my MBPs.

It’s the only drive in my laptop at the moment. They’re just plain better in every way except $/GB, and I think using a smaller drive is just worth it.

120GB in the laptop to store everything I take with me. 2.5TB worth of archives/backups on externals in 2 locations……works great for me.

Also, random note that I’ll put here for no reason in particular……apparently OWC is now selling SSD upgrades for the 2012 Retina MBP and 2012 MBA. They’re expensive, but the’re really nice drives.
