18 tracks in an hour
Hi,
I am recording a 1 hour mix for a friends party, which I unfortunately cannot attend.
In preparation for my mix I have selected 18 tracks. Is that about the right amount for an hours mix?

Sorry, usually I would just record it and work out whether I need to add or subtract tracks, but I don’t don’t have time for many retakes. Sorry for the tricky question!!

Well this mix I’m working on is about a quarter deep house and three quarters electro - hope this helps.
How do you expect us to know? Use some common sense. I know 18 tracks wouldnt be enough for me, but for others, its prob too many. Count how many songs you went thru in your last mix and do some simple math…i dnno. Just use your head bud.
it always depends on the style you´re mixing. i did a techy mix 2-3 months ago that was almost 1 hour long and contained 11 tracks and 2 days a go i made a mix that is 34 minutes long and contains 38 tracks. it´s all a matter of your mixing style… just saying
If each song is 3 minutes (which their not, they are usually 3-6 minutes), then 18 tracks would get you 54 Minutes
If you’re mixing 18 house tracks you may find it takes 70 minutes or so, which’ll still fit on a CD. 70 minutes would be fine, no?
deep house to electro?
I get any where between 12-20 tracks in an hour, depending on mixing style with the average track length 5:30. The times I’m getting more, I’m never letting anything breakdown, playing more double drops, using a track as a loop, but not actually playing the track.
Just hit record and keep track of the time, figure out how much you need to stretch or shrink a section to get all the songs in that you want.

Anyways, for me the magic number seems to be 13 tracks per hour. Somehow I always end up with that. I play mostly deep and tech house and some techno, though. Might be quite different with an ADHD genre like electro house.
8 records for the first 30 minutes, 20 for the second 30…
i usually just do about 12 or 15 tracks sounds about how many i do. i can’t say a specific number, 18 should be long enough. Some of my tracks are 8 minutes long. 7 minutes long. So those kind of tracks can add up time fast.
i play nothing but Omid 16b tracks…3 tracks an hour…

I make house and soulful house mixes and my sets include like 9 or 10 and sometimes max 11.I usually make my sets for 1 hour and not more than that maybe one song less 55 mins is ok .But ı believe 18 songs in an hour is too much mixing in ? I believe in the sets rather than live you can choose the sounds and play it on the last 32 or 16 beats.I do it that way especially on soulful house ı go with 32 beats and then the other song starts.

Post the track list with the times and we can get a rough estimate… but oh wait, you could do that yourself.

10-20 tracks is pretty standard for an hour long mix of the genres you’re mixing. Best bet is to start mixing with your 18 tracks in mind and then adjust based on how it’s going.
