4 pin firewire and Echo Audiofire 2?
Hey guys, I’m in need of some help. I’ve found a great offer on an Echo Audiofire 2 which I’ve chosen over the NI Audio 4 because of the firewire/lower price. However, my Dell M1330 XPS only has a 4-pin firewire interface whereas the Audiofire 2 has a 8-pin interface. Is there any good solutions to this problem, or should I find a NI instead?
The Audio Fire 2 page says it’s 6 pin firewire.

Thanks for your answer. I was just wondering if I would experience any reduction in quality by using a converter?
6 pin to 4 pin cables are pretty cheap and do the job but I’ve got one connecting my saffire LE to my laptop and it constantly disconnects when moved even slightly which apparently is a common problem according to focusrite. You should check the manufacturers website to see if they mention what is supported like Focusrite do.
Instead of the 6 to 4 pin cable if your laptop has an expresscard slot it may be worth buying a firewire card for it so then you can have a six pin connection
The only difference between 4-pin and 6-pin firewire is that 4-pin does not supply bus power, so you’ll have to connect the power supply to it.
