49 keys? 61 keys? 88 keys?

Hi,

Im currently using the akai mpk mini 25 key controller but its a little to small for playing chord progressions and bass lines and it doesn’t have very many assignable knobs. Right now, im thinking of upgrading to the m audio oxygen 49. Is it worth the money to get a 49 key keyboard or should I get a 61 or 88?

If you’re playing with 2 hands I think your’re gonna want a 61 key, but that’s really up to you. How far apart are your bass lines from your melodies?

You should look into the axiom instead of the oxygen, much better reviews.

One of my friends soldl his old 49 keys because he started piano lesson so I’ll agree with SlvDragon50 for this point, you should watch for a 61 keyboard. I will recommend novation impulse instead of m-audio axiom 2nd Gen.

Like SlvrDragon50 and lapinfuu I would also go for at least 61 keys.

Did the jump from 25 to 61 keys myself about two years ago and for playing with two hands I wouldn’t wanna go back to a smaller model.

So in my opinion a jump from 25 to 49 keys isn’t really worth it. But like SlvrDragon50 mentioned, this depends mainly on the key-range you need for playing.

If you have the possibility, also go to a music-store and try/compare different (sized) models.
