I agree bridge is definitely better for Serato users. For me I use both, Serato to DJ and Ableton to produce so it’s great to have the chance to blend the two.
I find this whole NAMM thing too much hyped. After all, it’s cool to see new gear but there are soooo many more NEW questions than old questions are answered. But that was just my little rant so continue the discussion here lol
Can’t say I disagree, I wish they would wait till the products were ready to ship (in the case of hardware) or ready for public beta testing in the case of software.
Ok, it’s time for the [former] Serato head to jump in here.
I converted over to Ableton completely this fall (hence my absence because that was a pretty time consuming process!). I had been an Ableton user in the studio but my gigging was done with Ableton and Serato running side by side. After finally getting frustrated with my limitations of Serato (including, but not limited to only 5 cuepoints) I made the switch to the darkside mostly as an influence from my Apc40.
As I’ve slowly pushed myself more and more into performance levels I’ve looked less and less at mixers, turntables, and headphones. But I have to admit that Bridge DOES look appealing. Bridge offers me the playhead control that I’m missing inside ableton.
(I should also be clear that in my end days as a serato user, I wasn’t even using decks anymore I had moved entirely to MIDI control…)
Obviously I’ll at least be testing bridge out seeing as I’ll get it free, but my bet is that bridge will end up getting used for my more ‘standard’ gigs where as I’ll be using Ableton only for the big performances. But yeah, for me it’s ALL about playhead control.
shouldn’t she be getting the tea?![]()
ed. Jk
I’m hyped about the live performance aspect. In one of the videos Sam from Serato mentions playing instruments in Ableton on top of your regular set. That alone is badass.
The ability to record all your song data and fader/eq movements of a live mix is ridiculous. It’s like the Native Mix Recorder on steroids.
Also, the two companies have stated that this is just the first phase of their collaboration.
Awesome.
edit: I’m also seeing “Auto Filter” in the right hand box of the Ableton view…that obviously means that Abletons effects will be available as well.
definitely anti-climactic.

What about ITCH?

…What about ITCH?

XoneDX…anyone? Bueler?

Beatgridding and Timestretching capabilities…any news? Doesnt seem like it.

One of the amazing things about ableton live is its ability to use powerful VST plugins. Where is the word on serato users being able to take advantage of that power? All i see is the usage of clips, which might as well just be another (very complicated) sampler inside of SSL at this rate.
This works with ITCH.
This works with ITCH.
Not a part of this announcement, but the announcement and product presentation was already made elsewhere.
timestretching is embedded pretty heavily and ableton can sync with the BPM of serato. ‘beatgriding’ is a trademark of traktor, i doubt Serato will be implementing it anytime soon.
VSTs will be usable on the very least the ableton clips, (VST compatibility has been confirmed) if not on all serato output.
Here is a good video of the bridge (not the press conference)
Watched the video and the conference video, and just one thing, Those guys dont do a very good job at explaining things. For such a product, i would think the would prepere a bit better ![]()
Theres a bit more info out on this now so feel i can comment… somewhat (cuz i think there is probably still more to come).
It looks pretty cool to me for a first up hit, everyone who’s hopes have been put down need to realize that this is just the first step into this and there is bound to be improvements. What we have so far is pretty decent and is really nothing to scoff over.
Personally though i think M4L has the potential to be able to out do this and not have users stuck with forcing users to use Serato’s hardware. A bit of playhead control in M4L controlling Ableton can go a looong way.
looks awesome for recording demos, the possibilites that the mixtape function opens up are crazy.
but for live performance it does leave a lot to be desired. it would be far better if you could route serato into ableton for live performance in a similar way that it does in the mixtape function so that one could take advantage of the FX in ableton for live performance situations.
i think this announcements main downfall is that you can only route ableton into serato for live performance, instead of being able to route serato back into ableton for live performance. i have no doubt in my mind that they will implement such a function in the future, it would be stupid not to. If the bridge opened up the possibility of doing complex back and forth routing between the two softwares simultaneously, I would be really really impressed.
as for now… i am a little underwhelmed. it’s never a great sign when the most attractive features are ones that we are still hoping will be invented in the future.
Total sidenote, but is it just me, or does Rane/Serato have some of the worst looking software when it comes to GUI design? That collection of colors is an eyesore every time I look at it.
The GUI functions really well in use IMO. I prefer it to any other software I’ve tried.
The 2.0 has more possibilities in selecting stuff you want to see on the fly.
What do you Serato users think of 2.0 from a strictly Serato point of view.
4 decks is great but none of you have 4 deck hardware. SL3 is 3 deck enabled, SL1 2 deck.
For all the good that 2.0 is FREE. No-one is actually gonna be able to use it to its fullest extent without buying new hardware. A new SL box (?) or the new Rane mixer.
Free - to an extent.
Ive been reading quite a bit of fuss on the Serato forum about this.
K
serato 2.0 looks SICK!!
cons: 68 rane mixer for 4 deck support/ the bridge u need ableton if u have it its free - if not u gotta shell out $600.00 /
pros - effects/sampler/bridge/4 decks again if u have the 68 or serato comes out with the sl4 which i don’t doubt it.. more gear to buy…
now production wise how different is ableton from maschine??
serato’s new gui looks nice how u see ur music with album art kinda looks like ur checking out a real crate and selecting records.. haha
an peeps saying its a let down from what they were expecting I think its crazy more stuff will come out of this…
The Rane mixer is $3,200 . How can that be a ‘con’.
Is anyone here gonna buy one ..? Doubtful. Its a club installation mixer.
Just how much is a new SL box gonna be?
No doubting that 2.0 and the Bridge is exciting and gonna open up djing in huge way. No-one is doubting that.
Im just wondering how accesible it is for the average Serato user.
that’s what i was trying to say the rane mixer is not gonna sell that well it’s too expensive maybe clubs?? who knows… nice mixer though haha
I think it sucks serato made that mixer in order to use 4 decks.. they should have done it by u controlling 4 decks with two turntables both coming out of two channels but I think that would be impossible?? hmmm or at least a 3 channel mixer.. have two internal decks and the other two u control… that way u don’t have to use 4 tt’s
I still think traktor does it nicely with four decks… less expensive too..
Serato 2.0 3 decks with fx video
LOL my bad i though you wrote PRO not CON.
I am STOOooopidO.
