Akai LPD8 knobs

Akai LPD8 knobs

Does anybody know if it’s possible to replace the knobs on the new akai pad? Something taller would be nice.

you could always glue extensions on… ghetto, but effective.

Yes they are. I tried placing the left over original VCI-100 knobs I had, the they almost fit but they have a little gap from the bottom to the actual slot in which the metal twisty thingy thats inside the knobs sits in, so it was way too loose to use as a replacement :disappointed:

Have you opened this thing? I don’t think you’ll be able to find a pot that can fit. So I don’t know. I use mine for hot cues only the knobs aren’t really used. I have gain key etc assigned but I hardly touch them.

you dont need to open it up to change the knobs. Just slip something flat underneath em and use it as a lever to take it off.

Bump. I’d really like to find some taller knobs for this as well. Perhaps there is a way to get replacement parts for other Akai products and use that?

im looking at tossing my nano for one of these, i need more knob control, the x/y on the nano just doesnt cut it. if any1 has the downlow on these knobs, hook it up

So far ive found 2 different knobs that work.

The knobs from the nanoKONTROL and the Evolution UC-33.

neither really seem ideal, but possibly still an upgrade from the awkward flat/wide knobs supplied.

I’d still like something a little chunkier. i love the pioneer DJM-800 knobs but pretty sure they are a different spec completely. I tried one on my nanoKONTROL when i still owned a DJM 800 and i think it would have worked but the pointing line didnt line up correctly (if that makes any sense).

All these controllers (LPD8, nanoKONTROL, UC-33) seem to use the same plastic pinned pots… so any other controller using these pots should have knobs that fit the LPD8.

Am interested to see if anyone finds any others!

also:

I bought one of these to replace my nanoPAD. DO IT. so much better. the only drawback is the pads take a little more force to trigger, but its a much higher quality controller all around. Not to mention it allows for two-way midi communication. e.g. you can send midi note info BACK to the LPD8 and the pads will light up.

(im doing another post about this in a bit, if there isnt already one)

just saw these, they look promising but without seeing the underside/seeing them in person its hard to say.

anyone have an “Ion iMX02”? (where these knobs apparently come from)

EDIT: It just hit me that the VCI knobs (and replacement knobs) might work as well.

can anyone confirm this that owns both a VCI controller and an LPD8?

My gf:s father owns a cnc machine shop. So if someone could make a cad drawing of the knobs with the right specs but a little higher/however you would like them Im fairly sure I could make a bunch and sell them here to you guys on djtechtools.

Defenitly better then trying to fit knobs from other controllers as there wil fit perfectly.

read my first post in this thread. In brief, no they don’t work :disappointed:

Whoops! totally forgot you said that. I have some knobs that have a similar problem, the potentiometer “post” isnt long enough to hold the knob securely due to the inside of the knob being recessed. (i think thats what you’re saying about the VCI knobs)

hrmm…

hello everybody, I’m from switzerland and there’s an enterprise called ritel (www.ritel.ch). And they create knobs like this and I asked and it would be no problem to made them. The only problem is that I have to order minimum 100 of them and much more we will order, cheaper they get… Maybe we could get together and make this order. Maybe thru the shop? What do you think?

greets from the snow white Switzerland

I would definitely be interested, but it all depends on if the price is right. I’m honestly starting to wonder if we’re all just barking up the wrong tree. Perhaps if we really want taller knobs we should just be getting the mpd24 in the first place.

@lucadegrandis

I live in France and would be definitely interested in that. So if you manage to get the people for 100 of these babies, count me in for 8

but I have to ask, how much are they charging you for the 100 knobs?

keep me updated!

Count me in too, that would be awesome–I just ordered my LPD8 and I’m concerned about ittybitty knobs.

the itty bitty knobs are… well, kinda small, but the main issue I’m having is that you have to hit the pads REALLY hard. trying to figure out how to adjust this in ableton. haha. crabs in traktor sometimes dont really register?

hmm. Well I was also considering an MPD18 instead… But I thought I’d rather have only 8 pads than only one variable controller (the single fader on the MPD18).

And I’m a pretty agressive button masher. ha.

hello, about the buttons… i got yesterday my X1 and so i think i will only use de ldp8 for cuejuggeling and so the knobs are good as they are. But if someone is still interested in the knobs, get yourself in contact with them. It’s an international enterprise. Sorry…
