My review: REVIEW: Allen & Heath Xone:PX5 Mixer – DJWORX

I almost bought one, it was awesome, BUT I couldn’t assign my RMX-1000 to an individual channel & that was kinda a deal breaker for me. Build quality is solid

It has FX Send and Receive… scratches head

And it does have channel FX assign. Top right knob on the mixer face.

I too am curious about this mixer. All the reviews are positive, but I’d like to hear from people who have been using it for a while

I finally got to play with one and ended up going with the DB2. It’s great, if you are going for a pioneer club kit style of set up. That was exactly what turned me off from it tho. I prefer something that makes me feel more like I am sitting at my production desk.

Hmmm. I undecided between the xone 92 and px5. Built in sound card is a big draw for me

I was scratching my head too.. for channels it’s Aux send like the Xone 92 NOT insert… so you can’t do stuff like rolls/isolator.. you can do insert on the Master but that’s not what I’m looking for.

To summarize external effects:
Individual channel effect send - yes
Individual channel effect insert - no
Master channel effect send - yes
Master channel effect insert - yes

does the level knob in the effects section act as the return function with external effects?

I believe so, once I realized I couldn’t use my RMX-1000 as I wanted I gave up on it

You cant individually insert an external effect on a channel, that’s for internal effects & aux sends

You hook the RMX-1000 into the FX Send/Return in the back of the mixer. Went to my pal’s place on Saturday night. He has his PX5 running through a set of FX pedals. You can assign them to each channel individually, but only one channel at a time for obvious reasons.

again, that’s aux send, not insert… if the FX pedals are something like Reverb/Delay that’s fine, but it’s a compressor, looper, EQ, , filter or something similar it doesn’t work like that

on the top of each channel you see an option to use an “Ext” effect, then a knob below it sets the “FX Send” amount… it’s FX send, not wet/dry. There’s no option to send to an external effect machine (like the RMX-1000) completely wet. If you look on a Xone 43:C You’ll see the the effect knob say “wet/dry”, but on the PX5 it’s “FX Send” with the send amount being 0 - +6dB, so you can’t use the looping, filters, EQ on the RMX-1000

The PX5 is one filter away from being my perfect mixer. That’s the only reason I haven’t bought one

Does that mean that it would be difficult to use it with an external isolator?

You could chain the ISO after the master out, I guess?

Hmm… I was hoping that I could send either a channel or the master. Ah well.

Hi, you can set channel Send as pre or post fader, that should work for looping/compressors etc

Yup. Switch to the left of the channel select knob.
