Analog Synth help?

Analog Synth help?

Does anyone have any recommendations on an analog synth? Must support Midi, and price limit is $400. Thanks!

Desktop synth? 400 new? Dave smith Mopho maybe it is fully midi controllable and has a sweet vst but you will want to use an editor to program patches. Really depends what you are looking for if you had a budget around $600 new or used you will have a lot more options

the KORG microKorg is a good beginner synth.

Not analog

It’s not? My bad, I was under the wrong impression then. Should of done some research. sorry bout that.

Get a used dave smith desktop evolver. The mopho sounds good but especially for a beginner and its lack of knobs it just sort of ends up being a preset player and not a machine for programming. The desktop mopho was such a drag to program on.

I found a Yamaha DX7 for $150, should I go for it?

Didn’t you say you wanted an analog synth? dx7 is digital FM, I think you really need to do more research and figure out what you’re looking for. Dx7 is also a massive pain to program.

Save up another $200 and buy a Moog Minitaur, the cheapest analog synth ever sold by Moog: Moog Minitaur Bass Synthesizer | Musician's Friend

Hence why I asked. It’s quite cheap and can make some nice sounds, but it’s not analog.

Native Instruments Massive is also cheap and makes nice sounds and is not analog: http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/producer/massive/

It really all depends on what you want out of a synth.

What are you looking for in a synth?

If you want to make 80s sounds get a dx7

The arturia minibrute is worth a look. Sick basses to be had there.

what is a keyboard?

hey djtechtoolers,

i have a pretty simple question that im sure no one will agree on so im looking forward to reading your responses.

I am looking to purchase a fullsize keyboard that would be great for playing without any external plug ins, but that is also perfect for hooking up into ableton and using as a midi…

preferable price range 200-500?

any suggestions?

if you want a keyboard that can make it’s own sound not reliant on a computer, they are known as synthesizers… you will be hard pressed to find a decent one for that amount of cash… you should save up a bit more coin as production gear costs way more than dj gear.

Dx7 does have a good midi keyboard so that might be an option.

To the op the Minibrute looks amazing for the price

i used to hate the sounds of the dx7 personally. my old korg dw8000 had a pretty decent feeling keyboard and not bad sounds. had a kawai k4 about at the same time that made some useful sounds but the keyboard wasn’t as solid. i’d guess stuff like those go nice and cheap these days.
