And the latest innovation in techno is…vocals? Let’s call it Deep Techno
these tracks have been huge this year. “huge” relatively speaking of course.
what would you call these?
i’ve seen them labeled deep house but i don’t think they’re funky enough to be deep house. the mood is pretty dark and brooding but there’s way too much vocals for it to be your traditional techno.
Well…these are sounds I definitely like. I’ve had that caribou track in and out of my cart for a while. I can’t decide if it’s too over the top. Well, actually I can…and it is. It’s gorgous, I just can’t see how it would ever fit into a set except as an intro.
I’m not sure what to call them, but you find them in stores labeled as deep house, techno, minimal, and indie dance (for some reason). I kind of think of it as what old trance actually turned into.
So…rather that making up a new genre name, I just spin it and be happy. Or boody. Whatever.

that’s not “deep techno”
scsi-9 makes some deep techno and have been doing so for a long time
vocals =/= deep, thought provoking does.
[/quote]that kind of track used to be called progressive house until festival mainstage tracks took over the term. then digweed & co tried to call it deep house until disclosure and the like took that over. now it’s up in the air. i think the vocals add a different dimension but that track has a similar aura so that’s fine by me.
It’s funny, I’ve been compiling tracks like these for a new mix, sort of moody, a little dark, about half with vocals. Thanks for pointing me to some new artists remixes. I’ve been calling it Shoegazer Tech.
Dubfire is just straight techno and Maceo Plex is pretty unique. but mostly deep, definitely with techno inspiration, as, Maceo Plex is also Maetrik, who JUST produces and DJs techno. Maceo for the deep, Maetrik for the techno.
