I was wondering what APPS folks have found on android to sketch out beats / music that they upload into their DAW’s ?
I bought Chordbot for creating chord progressions, very useful
I downloaded Caustic but its too fiddly
Only if Imagline/propellerheads/ableton/NI made something for droid.
i think Caustic is fine…just too limited..
but there’s so much drum machine/bassline apps for android though..one of the more useful are Microsonic SPC & RD3
wow.. i just downloaded both of these and they are both great. i have no traditional music background so chordbot is terrific for basslines when i dont know how to play melodies
SunVox is pretty neat I use Caustic too.
There aren’t a lot on Android yet. With more devices having OTG USB host capabilities, i think we need Korg and NI to port all their stuff over!
By accident found and installed Caustic. I’m by no means a producing guru, but man, that’s one neat app! Very nice use interface (really intuitive, gets the job done) and pretty advanced too. Also like that you can install extra audio packs through Play Store.
i absolutely love Su-Preme MPA. it’s like an MPC app basically. very sick for hip-hop. but you could sketch out any sort of beat, providing you upload the samples you want. it does come with some basic 808 samples and a few others as well.
i’ve only played around with the caustic demo on the other hand, but i may buy it soon.
i made some rather simple stuff with MPA, using most of the provided samples, and some i uploaded. you can hear it on my soundcloud if you like, just to give you an idea. there are also some very helpful tutorials on youtube.
As far as I know, it’s still not possible to anything that requires realtime low-latency audio on android which is why you don’t see major companies releasing Android apps other than very simple apps. It’s a technical issue with Android OS itself. It’s just not ready for music production tools compared to iOS which is light years ahead for both audio and MIDI support. Aside from the limitations of the OS, Android also suffers from device fragmentation which is a nightmare for any potential developer.
