Any commercial/ top 40 DJ’s willing to share playlists?
So i’ve just played my first Commercial/top 40 show and found myself rapidly running out of commercial/ top 40 tunes!
If there’s anyone out there that plays non-genre specific top 40 sets for students etc. then it would be amazing if you could share your playlists with me as i’m struggling to decide what to go ahead and buy. I believe you can export traktor/ itunes playlists as text files.

Usually for standard pop stuff I just look at the current chart and if the original mix won’t really work I’ll look for remixes of anything that could be interesting.
So… start here, then just google “ remix” and some remixes will come up. Top results will usually be a youtube preview with a purchase link, pretty quick to get through some tunes.
I just use djcity or DMS they have most of the stuff that’s on the charts + other stuff
I’m sorry but this just means your not ready to DJ.
DJing is about doing your own thing, track collection is one of the most important things as a DJ… Everybody can mix 2 songs.
Just invest some time in actually being a DJ.
Yeah i’ve been playing a reasonable size dubstep night in my town for about a year now.. I dunno why you think you can tell me im ‘not ready to DJ’ just because I had A bad expeirience turning my hand to a new style of music..
As I say, it was my first show playing a genre that i’ve never tried to play before and rarely listen to so therefore a had a limited number of tracks that I felt the crowd would respond well too. I have the next one on monday so I do not have enough time to build the sort of collection I have over the past year in the dubstep genre. I was asking for help from the djtt community, obviously I can buy the current top 40 and remixes therein but what im after is an insight into what people who play these nights regularly spin and what goes down well.

Hi, I’m a writer. I normally write spy novels, and my fans tell me I’m quite good at them. I’m self taught and fairly successful, which makes me proud.
This week my publisher asked me to write a romance. I’ve never written a romance novel. In fact, because I haven’t even read many romance novels (despite them being in every bookstore), I wouldn’t know how to start writing one. To be honest, I don’t really like romance novels, I consider them populist drivel.
What I’m asking is for you romance novel writers to tell me what I should write so I can bang one out and pick up the cheque from my publisher. In fact, if you could just send me the best bits of your best stories in a text file, I’ll just change some of the names and be in the pub by 7.

Yeah, it seems to me, as I learn more about DJing, half (or more) of the job is actually the preparation. Getting/ finding songs you like (and hope others do too), learning them well (at least the ones used in your sets), keying them up, BPM analyzation, beat gridding them (for controllerists) and finding how they mix with other songs are all part of the preparation. (did I forget anything?) If you try to cheat your way around any of these steps, your going to be simply less prepared and in turn, less professional as a DJ.
Coming here for help may be a method for getting a list of new tracks easily, but it is cheating or being lazy as TABS pointed out, so it is only going to help short term, especially since TABS was so generous. If you ask here again for more tracks, people will most likely just ignore you.
My suggestion, do your job and prepare properly. There are tons of posts on where to find music and how. Start reading and have fun!.

I all honestly when I took my first top 40 bar gig I was fairly under-prepared, but I needed the money bad, and enjoy playing all kinds of music anyway. I took the gig because I knew that I had a tonne of tracks that would probably go down well anyway (older hip hop, rnb and house) and a week to research the shit out of what was new and being played on the radio. So I listened to Kiss and Radio 1 all week at work and checkout their playlists online in the evenings. The gig went really well and I’ve been doing similar ones for the last year or so.
I think there’s an amount of hustling in getting gigs, like in alot of jobs really. You might not always know exactly what you’re doing, but if you know you’re the kind of person who picks things up quick and is alert to what the crowd are doing, then you’re golden.
Asking people you dont know to do 50% of the work for you is kinda pushing it though, there are enough resources online for there to be no excuse really.
You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman.
So, out of all the other “genres” in the world, you go from playing dubstep to top40?

With how much is out there in the underground scene you go with the biggest sellout there is out there, in effect making yourself a sell out? And if that was the case, the least you could do is spend the time to do it right and at least learn the fucking tracks that are played ALL the time on the radio, or go out to any number of bars, not even clubs, just a silly corner bar!, on any given night and listen to some other jock who doesn’t know what he’s doing and just rip off his tracks.
Or, now here’s a crazy idea, go to the fucking Top 40 charts!

Not sure why some people are getting a little bent out of shape over this. I think maybe people feel like by giving this person a bunch of songs off their playlist that somehow they are cheating the system. Nothing makes up for practice time and live experience. I could hand this person my laptop and I know there is no way he can produce a set as good as mine. Nothing against him, it’s just not my first rodeo.
