I would buy the one who’s sound better to my ears. Period.

hear you but havnt had the chance to hear the mackie’s no one hase them on display or they are out of stock

I have the Mackies and they sound great, but I’ve never heard the KRK’s so I can’t compare them.

I heard both. All I can say it’s still depend of your personal taste, and what type of music you want to listen to and how loud you want them.

I tend to prefer the Mackie one just because they sound more equally at low and high volume, while the KRKs loose some roundness at higher volume. But the Mackie one need some Eq notches here and there, while the KRK don’t really need.

Silly ears…

Also in the market, and also narrowed down to KRK and Mackies. I can’t make a final decision. At lower (home) volumes they are comparable, but when they are cranked up (in demo studio), IMO the Mackies have the edge. Had pretty much decided on KRK’s until I compared them cranked up.

thanks all found a store that has both going tom to check them out

 great - please post your impressions - it might help me decide

This is what i found and ordered the mackies the higher sound was much better on the mackies even though the krks are sweet .My personal preference are the mackies hope this helps

Do you think this holds across the two entire lines, for instance comparing krk8s and mr8s?

Im deciding between those two at the moment. House parties at my place need a little more power.

sorry did not listen to the 8’s but if they are anything like the 5’s for what you wanna do mackies

IMO yup - the (Mackie) 8’s are brilliant, and have got lots of balls for a house party. Did a direct (studio) comparison of both brands across the series, with the new Jerome Sydenham cranked way up. Mackie 8’s blew me away. SERIOUSLY expensive in South Africa though.

So what was improved on the mk2’s? There is about a 50 dollar difference…don’t wanna pay that if there isn’t a noticeable difference.

Structurally same - supposed ‘wider’ soundstage, but not discernable to my ears.

I went for the KRK RP8 G2 over the M8, simply because of space and setup requirements. The Mackies are rear ported, so you need to give them the placement and space they need to get full appreciation. The KRKs are front ported and keep their sound pretty much anywhere I put them down. The Mackies do have a wider reference field, though, rounder sound, less bright in the high end. KRK more focussed, punchier, and a bit brighter on the high end. However, compared to the Genelecs, both these brands lack some depth. But Genelec is too far out of my price range, though ace for production.

My 2c’s

Update my Mackies went back and now on the way are the krk rp5 g2 for the same reason as above .Do not have a lot of room for the rear ports so krk on the way
