Anyone not use crossfader?

Anyone not use crossfader?

I was just messing around with the concept of not using the crossfader and just using channel faders like on the Vestax TR1

Anyone who doesnt use ableton do this? If you do, Why did you start? And do you think it limits you?

haven’t used the cross fader for ages. There’s no real need if you’re not scratching. I use the EQs and each channel’s specific fader.

No crossfader here unless I’m doing quick drops/cuts of my next track. The crossfader either stays center or I unassign inputs from it. If you’ve got a midi mixer you could reassign it to some other purpose too.

I use it more and more… but Im using 2 crossfaders.
Ill have 8 breakbeats synced in ableton half of them have no A or B and are going output 1,2 and 3,4 . The other half are A or B and I cut between those on APC40 or Xone 2d. My master is going out on 5,6 and fx out on 7,8.
So I can flick between beats and double flick them into the fx and cut out to only cut them back in again.
The second x fader is on a xone 92 mixer
in the old vinyl cd mixing days I never used the fader once. I preferred the levels because of mixing 4 channels at once

What’s a crossfader?

And by that I mean I never bothered to learn to scratch, so…yeah…I don’t think I’ve ever used a crossfader except to prove to myself that I still couldn’t scratch.

1º thing I do when I’m in front of an analogue mixer or download a TSI: disable crossfader.
in my last tsi i use it for monitor mix :stuck_out_tongue:
in ableton: dry/wet return fx

Never used the cross fader. Using the up faders gives me so much more control. I like control.

I’ve never used the crossfader.

+10

Cross-faders are for cutting and scratching. And that is all.

only use it for scratching…you cant mix 4 channels with a crossfader

I use it when appropriate, which isn’t very often.

+1.

I like the crossfader. Not only because I thinks it’s heaps of fun to cut between tracks, but also because it gives a intuitive representation of volume distribution between two decks.

Agreed

back in the day when i was using 1200s and first starting out i used a cross fader. however over time i found using the inv. channel faders offer a better and smoother transition as well as using the EQ on the channels. also seems that every mixer has its own idea of crossfading and i foud it rather inconsistant from mixer to mixer.

I have never used a crossfader, whenI see people using it I am dumbfounded as to why… I understand using it for scratching, but if youare mixing EDM you shouldn’t be using the crossfader. You will get much smoother mixes from using the channel faders and EQs properly!

Anyone have techniques for using the upfades smoothly? I always seem to do it to fast or too slow

I personally rarely use the Crossfader wether in a DJ program or using Ableton.
If I do then it is like previously mentioned, Quick drops and cuts. However I have come do do so with the volume faders to better effect perform those tasks.

EDM is diverse or?
also there is more than one way to skin a cat

This is the part where Im not sure if your using the right word.
Dumbfounded means to be amazed, speechless .. mabey confused is the better word to use.. in case your wondering though
Often there are beats or breakbeats in EDM, so the crossfader can be used to cut back and forth between songs. the ease of cutting to the tempo can be accomplished with 1 hand as opposed to be limited to using 2 hands. If you have a free hand, you can use it to adjust fx, eq or even navigate with your mouse somewhere. The speed of your cutting can be so tight, that people wont notice as long as your two songs are in tempo together.

The only thing about crossfaders though… is how fresh it is or worn out and of course how much control you have over the curve and the quality and ease of moving it from point a to point b. bad crossfaders will have bleeding audio and make it dangerous to use. And stiff crossfaders are just asking to be broken if you want to cut like your used to.
