i am curious how many people also don’t use the crossfader for anything.
for me, i never used him since the beginning.
i like to steer my channel-volume directly with the seperate channel-faders which let me set different mix-ratio as i would be able to set with the crossfader.
I don’t usually use the crossfader except for quick cuts. When mixing dance music, I don’t use it at all, you get more control with the upfaders. In fact I broke the crossfader off my VCI-100 straight after buying it and never replaced it.
The only time i ever use the cross fader is when i’m mixing with more than 2 decks and i need to pull out every deck but 1 with a drum fill or somethin like that. otherwise, line faders all the way.
If I’m straight up mixing I never use one, I think mostly due to the fact that when I started playing X-faders in clubs were normally trashed beyond recognition and not worth using anyhow
Only recently started using the Cross fader on the APC but for FX engaging really only.
I think it depends on your style, I play Deep / Progressive house/trance and Tech house mostly which doesn’t really lend itself to cuts, not in a crossfadery way anyhow - I can understand top 40, hip hop, r&b etc.. DJ’s rely on them though.
Mixing, i’ll use the Line Levels every time. Always have! I might use the Crossfader for a cut every so often… but in the mix, it’s always those lovely line levels!!
Fwiw I’ve always used xfader as I had issues years ago with line faders bleeding so I would cut then bring center and then use the line faders. Just for security
Don’t really use it much with physical mixers. I used it when I had an S4 and went through a short phase since I thought the S4 was kind of useless for actually mixing with the line faders.
I use the cross fader rarely only for a quick cut or i’ve done some spin backs and i wanted the echo ring out over a break down of the other track i felt i had more control with the cross fader but if it’s different per song used.
