Are novation products as good as they look ?

All in the title really.

Are they really as good as they look to be from the videos on youtube.

I’m contimplating a big spend this summer and it may be a launchpad, a zeroSL mk II and an ultranova for producing.

The Launchpad is amazing for the price. I use mine with Ableton for productions and as a dual Midifighter, looper and hot cue trigger in Traktor.

However, for a big spend specific to producing, I’d go for the all in one APC40 probably.

Sometimes a bit plasticky feeling (launchpad, in comparison to the akai APCs) but good hardware.

I think you really cant go wrong with either.. I went for the APC because i liked the idea of knobs and faders, which the launchpad didnt even have one.

I like the Monome/Sequencer mappings for the launchpad better then i like the APC’s.. If you have the money buy them both.. You can get either of then used for next to nothing.

get this

Hahaha, now were talkin my language.. Visual feedback = TONS in my book.

Although that seems overboard and i would get lost in it.. You could have a lot going on there thats for sure.

+1000000000

Someone should make one so big that when you play it you end up kind of drawing a big LED picture on the monome by the end of the set. Kind of like mixing music and art in the kind of way only Neil Buchanan would!

Completing the picture riught at the end of buildup.. ahaha. would be epic.

the zero sl mkII is for knobs and faders, and tbh the launchpad will be more for performing than producing.

I love my launchpad an SL25 MK1

The crossfader on the nocturn is funny but other than that it’s a good product too

i have a nocturn, excellent, after a good 6 months daily use the knobs feel a little wobbly but that was me starting DJing and doing full body filter twists :stuck_out_tongue: the twitch is looking pretty sexy as well

i have owned the launchpad zero mk1 novation x station and many other products by them

never had one problem.

In a word, no; they’re not quite as good as they look. They’re still pretty good though, and a definite great buy for the price – Novation is notoriously reasonable price-wise. I love my dicers. I have the SL-25 and it’s solid, despite being plasticky. Though automap is annoying as hell; I was not able to get the SL-25 midi mapped to traktor as I would have liked and consequently only get it out when I want to play with the sampler in Ableton. Launchpad, nocturn, both really cool products at great prices but they both feel kinda plasticky once you get them up close. I don’t own either though so I haven’t tried to map them; no idea if theyve fixed the automap problems.
