Audio output on laptop speakers with Numark Mixtrack Pro II + Traktor Pro 2

Hi guys,

I’m new to this forum and DJing in general. I’ve been thinking about buying a Numark Mixtrack Pro II, but I’m not sure if I can use it properly with the setup I have now. I temporary live in NY, but back home I have big speakers with a RCA connection. I don’t want to buy new speakers while living here, so I was planning on using my laptop’s speakers for audio output. I was wondering if anyone has any experience getting this to work. I’m planning on using a Numark Mixtrack Pro II, Traktor Pro 2 and a Windows 8 laptop. I’ve read several things about running the controller’s audio back into the laptop through the mic port (http://serato.com/dj-intro/support/15389/how-to-use-your-serato-dj-intro-controller-with-your-built-in-computer-speakers-on-mac/numark), but I haven’t read anything about if this will work on a Windows laptop specifically (in combination with Traktor Pro 2, not sure if that matters).

Thanks for any help in advance!

Maybe I don´t get your point what to trying to do.. BUT

To output your master (or monitor audio) through the laptop´s speaker, just set Traktor´s master (or monitor) output routing to your onboard sound interface. Traktor can only handle one audio interface. So in this case you can only hear your master OR monitor output.

On Mac you can simply aggregate sound interfaces to one virtual interface. Maybe there are tools for Win aswell. In this case, you can make your Mixtrack´s audio interface and you onboard sound to ONE virtual interface. Then, in Traktor´s output routing you can select your onboard sound as master output and your mixtrack´s headphone channels as monitor output. You will hear the master signal and your laptop´s speakers and can pre listen with your headphones, too.

Thanks for your answer.

I don’t have the Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 here yet, and I’m not that familiar with DJing hardware and software, so my assumptions are mainly based on my experiences with Traktor so far, and what I’ve read. So maybe my assumptions are way off, but what I meant is the following:

I want to route the main audio output from the Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 back to my (Windows) laptop, and I’m wondering if that’s possible. If I correctly understand what you’re describing: you’re talking about having a master output and a monitor (pre-listening) output when using Traktor Pro 2 software as a main DJ controller. I agree with you that that’s not possible on a Windows computer, so I bought a very cheap external soundcard USB device (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/945077-REG/startech_icusbaudiob_usb_2_0_to_audio.html) that allows me to use both my laptop’s speakers and my headphones when using Traktor Pro 2. That’s the setup I have now.
I’m thinking of buying and using a Numark Mixtrack Pro, and route the audio output back to my Windows computer through the laptop’s mic-input (using a cable like this: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41JGQR4TJML._SX300_.jpg). There are several blogs that describe how to do this on a Mac (http://serato.com/dj-intro/support/15389/how-to-use-your-serato-dj-intro-controller-with-your-built-in-computer-speakers-on-mac/numark), so my question is: is this also possible with a Windows computer?

Does this make my question more clear?

While C0nsul’s information is accurate, you’re on the right track Sammy. The simplest thing would be to output your Mixtrack interface to the input on your laptop, using an RCA to 1/8" stereo cable. In Traktor, choose the Mixtrack as your output device for both main and monitor.

I don’t know about the technical details regarding this but, it’s worth investigating whether the input on your laptop can distinguish between a microphone or line level source. Perhaps someone else here can share some knowledge on that.

I remember I did this before with some old C-Media 7.1 sound card on my old desktop. I have no idea how I did it but I know my Master output was a default sound card but I’ve been able to output Monitor trough my Asio drivers on my rear speakers channel.

You should be able to set up a routing using Jack (Jack audio on windows.html. This would the act as a virtual audio interface for Traktor but allow flexible routing and multiple physical interfaces. You could then output the master to the laptop speakers and monitor out to the controllers headphone out. I would work in a similar way to aggregating interfaces on an OSx.
