Avicii steam sound

Avicii steam sound

If anyone here listens to avicii, you know that there are a few things he does in most songs. One is the chromatic scale up with bleep sounds on the way to a drop, the other is the sound that sounds like steam exhaust. Or kinda like white noise. Is there a name for that if I were to look for a sample?

Yeah, it’s called white noise.

With some filters, compression and other effects thrown on it for fun.

How do you do it?!?

Find a synthesizer, find the white noise setting and play a note with a long attack and long release. Run that through a highpass filter, tweak the filter and volume over time, voila.

A white noise swooshy part is just one of the layers in these kinds of tracks.

ill try that. you mean play my samples with my midi keyboard?
does anyone know which sample sets may have the sound i want? just like a nice STRONG/weak white noise sound

i used this.

nevermind i just realised this was in the music production section. i came across it during a search.

I am of no use

Majority of VST synths either allow you to select “white noise” as a wave type in the oscillator or have separate noise generators (like NI Massive). This is the key to this sound, then just add a high resonance low-pass or hi-pass filter to the chain. Automate the filter cutoff frequency in the sequencer to make the sound change over time. If you want the white noise sound to pump with the kick (every time a kick hits, white noise fades out and then gradually comes back) just put a compressor and side chain it with the kick.
A fun thing to do is to modulate filter cutoff frequency with LFO, and then automate LFO rate. And of course don’t forget about reverbs and delays.
