I have been loudly complaining about the beatport website and how unusable I think it is. Someone else seems to agree, but is actually doing something about it:
Still in very early stages and will see more refinement. However it seemed stable for me so far so its worth a try I would say.
I run Firefox 3.5 on OS X 10.5.7, and Beatport works about 90% trouble free. Every once in a while i’ve had issues with clicking the “Download Now” button. But even that was a very recent issue and it seems to have fixed itself.
But the prospect of a desktop platform sounds awesome!
well .. 90% is quite pathetic an acheivement from beatport’s perspective.
my main gripe is that beatport is slow as hell. it also breaks standard interaction concepts, like being able to use a password manager or having the forward and backward buttons work reliably. the search could also be better, but that is only a side gripe compared the the other issues. its a classic example of a site that went nuts with flash and forget about basic UI and web interaction principles.
anyways .. hopefully as this app matures, I can stop complaing about the beatport website
it only makes sense for them to develop a desktop client. it’s strictly for listening/downloading music, something that imo is better done as an application rather than on a website
Sorry to revive an old thread but I wanted to let everybody know we have just released Beatler 1.5 with a slimmer UI as well as some new features. We are currently working on an iPad version as well as local library management (so long itunes), traktor/serato playlist management, & Last.fm Radio integration among a huge list of other features.
Feel free to follow us on twitter http://bit.ly/eDnr9d or facebook Facebook as I update frequently on what we are workin on. WE love user feedback so if you have any suggestions or comments hit us up.
Also wanted to mention Beatler is now available in the Mac App Store for a new low price of $9.99 http://bit.ly/i59ITh as well as our website www.cancelmonday.com
side note: we did submit this app to Ean a year ago for review in hopes he would mention it in the blog but alas nothing ever came of that. Anyways check it out and please tell your friends if you dig it
Regards
-J
(Update) also here is a quick vid showing the new crate share feature
Looking in to it now. Looks to be on last.fm’s end. I will have Rupert take a look at the api… this may be something you can actually fix by updating your info on last.fm (where we retrieve that info)
Will try this again. though I have to say, apart from being Flash, the Beatport website is not as annoying as some. I think my main request from a desktop app would be to be able to search as flexibly as possible.
I wish Beatport would integrate the Mixed In Key service so you can buy ready keyed music (for a bit extra).
:hint: we are already working on bpm and key info.. cant say when but its in the worx… also workin on sub genres, tags, and a bunch of other stuff as well ill update the facebook/twitter page as we progress
(edit) I should note I have a HUGE laundry list of features some I can talk about some I cant . but key and bpm is at the top of the list
awesome work on the app! saves me so much time having hot keys and being able to quickly scan through tracks /me crosses fingers for a junodownload version one day
I have been looking in to adding other distributors such as addictech, trackitdown, junodownload, etc but sadly its not possible cause none of them have an api for us to plug in to beatler. so for the moment it just isn’t possible
