Hi just wondering the best free vst’s around at the moment?
Picked up camel crusher a while ago, always comes in quite useful, native instruments driver looked quite a cool one but not really had much use for that one at yet..
Any handy max for live devices would be great to discover too, cheers
Synth1, anything from TAL, (synths, effects, etc) W1 Limiter, Voxengo Span, (analyzer) Acon Digital Multiply, (chorus) DC1A and TDR Feedback Compressors.
Max4L depends on the kind of music you make. I don’t use a lot, but go back through Ableton’s weekly newsletters for all kinds of free stuff - especially M4L and racks. (assuming you’re a Live user)
Also, Slate Digital just released a pluggable rack thing demo that comes with an analog-console-modeling thing that’s very simple and was anxiously awaited. I’ve been happy with some of their (not free) stuff.
I’ve really wanted to try some of the Slate things based on overall consensus of the quality of their plugs. I just can’t be bothered to dongle. (keeps me away from UAD as well, which sucks)
UAD isn’t just a dongle. Their stuff actually runs on DSP chips.
If you have the budget for it, it’s worth it. They sound great and don’t add latency or very much in terms of processing demands. It’s actually a really cool system.

Perhaps I haven’t researched it enough, but when UAD goes from say, the 1st version of the card to the 2nd, you don’t necessary have to get the mkII to continue using the old VSTs? I thought you did. Same w/ the iLok dongles…and I’d like to demo them without picking up the card or iLok, which isn’t possible…
You can try this: Piano / Strings plugins - PLUGINS 4 FREE. I was looking for some free plugs I had back in the day, but didn’t see them on this list…I use mainly Pianoteq or Kontakt now, both of which cost money.
Yeah, I’m contemplating if I should just spend the money and get one of those, but it seems like that is the way to go for a virtual Instrument That will sound decent.
http://www.klanghelm.com will get you some free saturation and compression. They are way more on the subtle side - which is a plus for me. I’m a bit burt out on the sausage fattener type plugs.
