Off the top of my head, I can’t think of specific mashups that I really like and I don’t know what type of mashups you are into (there are mashups like Girl Talk which switches songs a lot or there are more regular mashups where it’s just the vocals of one track layered on the instrumental of another track).
I can however suggest a lot of mashup artists whom I enjoy listening to and maybe a track or two of them that you should check out.
MashupGermany (Specific ones include Hakuna Matata (I made it) for and Love the Way You Mix) I really like most of his though.
Dj Stroke
Mother Earth
Titus Jones (Possibly my favorite)
Mochi Beats
Friendly Giant
Milkman
Dj Earworm
Girl Talk
Super Mash Bros.
E-603
White Panda
Dj Earworm
(The ones I would check out if I am short on time are Girl Talk, White Panda, Titus Jones and Mashup Germany but once again, just personal perference. I’m sure there are specific mashups that I can’t name but really enjoy)
is it just me or is playing other people’s mash-ups tantamount to ripping transitions/blends from other people’s mixes and using them in your own sets?
just seems kind of lazy, why not make your own custom mash-ups & edits.
Loo & Placido do some nice mashups as well, most I’ve seen are more towards the rock + something side if i remember correctly but fun to listen too anyway
While you are poking around check out Naysayer and Gilsun, once again a pretty local Melbourne act so I don’t know if you will find much of their stuff…
but here is the hot tip - YACHT CLUB DJS << get amongst it!
With a genre that he doesn’t specialize in I don’t think so. Mash-ups etc can take a pretty long time and it seems like he is only doing this as a one off. Think of the much time he would take producing his own mash-ups or even on the fly ones would have to be practiced and perfected. Then it seems to be a one off thing. I doubt the much money he is making from the gig will be worth the time and effort that he would put into it if he made his own mash-ups etc.
Love this thread btw. I also do not specialize in this kind of genre but do a mix for the radio station I work for under an alias name and do not speak throughout the show this gets aired for. I do some of my own mash-ups and edits but only when I have the time which isn’t very often. It can take up alot of my time looking for something different yet still Top 40 orientated and its great to see some names I have never checked out before.
Cheers Lads!
