Figured it would be good to have an ongoing dialogue about which books we are reading and can recommend to eachother. Guess i’ll start
Confessions of a Record Producer by Moses Avalon- How to survive the scams and shams of the music business. So far a brutally honest read and i would recommend it to anyone who is serious about staying in music for the long haul.
Great book that breaks down fear and the biggest thing I took from it was that there is no right or wrong decision. Whatever decision you make will give you experience and that is priceless.
This book is fucked. You dont read it… it reads you. Seriously.
I’m a design/type freak so I would love it. But check it out. Insanity.
Also The Sparrow forgot who its by.. Maria someone I think is seriously fucking good. Interesting Sci-Fi take on religion & interplanetary contact etc.
Ya i was actually a little frightened when i saw House of Leaves at your house… Went through it once and it literally changed my outlook on life, love, and my perceptions of my own mortality.
I enjoy short stories and often don’t read books cover to cover some of my favorites are:
The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven -Sherman Alexie
I Hope they serve beer in hell -tucker max (can be read online)
No Country for Old Men - Cormac McCarthy
and of course the Traktor Bible - (jk I have not ordered it yet)
best coffee table book 100 suns photos of atomic bomb tests
The four hour work week - by Tim Ferris
Cradle to Cradle - William McDonough about green design

The four hour work week - by Tim Ferris
[/quote]Well I had to check that one out, how was it? I read some reviews and it looks like another self-help book for people who dream of more… but maybe it’s solid?
Yes, I realize that recommending a book about horses on a site with “tech” in the name is strange. Monty Roberts has had an amazing life. The book really isn’t about horses. It’s about communication. That’s the business we’re all in here, isn’t it. His theory that animals want to “Join Up” with humans can be seen through the eyes of the DJ convincing the crowd to join up with him/her.
zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance. deep stuff for you to re-read twice and still not have a clue as to what he’s really thinking.
anything from the Crimethinc Workers Collective. check them out, their writing will inspire you to new levels of life-fulfilling.
honestly, i think all of us should read DJing for Dummies..i hid it under a stack of books when i picked it up, but read every page of it, and learned some important things. i think everyone could pick up a thing or two from it, as basic as it sounds.
I’m almost done with Catch 22. The first 100 pages make practically no sense whatsoever, and then it all starts to conform into this amazingly depressing and overwhelming tale of a bunch of bomber pilots in World War II. It’s an amazing story.
I would recommend anything by Kurt Vonnegut. After you read a few of his books they all kind of resemble each other, but Slaughterhouse 5, Breakfast of Champions and Cat’s Cradle are amazing books.
Also, for the masochists out there, read The Canterbury Tales in the middle English so I can have someone to talk to about it.
The dark tower series by Stephen King is amazing.
Also, the His Dark Material series by Phillip Pullman are great. One was pretty recently made into a movie (which didn’t do the book justice at all…)
The vampire books by Anne Rice are also good.
