Building a Production Desk ?

Building a Production Desk ?

Hey guys,

Im moving soon to a new student apartment, and am planning to get my stuff a little bit more organized.

My equipment is as follow:

Motu Ultralite interface
49keys midi keyboard
Maschine
iPad with Lemur
macbook pro + external 22" Screen
2 monitors
some desktop synth modules of small size.

now, I’d love something similar to this desk

but the price tag is just too high for a student. Do you have any ideas of whether I can soldier something out of lets say, different Ikea parts or so? Something that wouldnt break my bank…

I dont need Rack-compartments, as I dont have any rack modules, but definitely want my Monitors and screens to be positioned on a higher level, eye-ear level.

hmmm ?

Just google Ikea production desk.

Too bad Ikea got rid of the Jerker! I love mine.

The Jerker was a beast! They still pop up on ebay every now and again…

this Jerker looks quite nice, but very narrow. If I put a 49key kbd, it will pretty much take the whole space on the desk. I really need to have maschine at a hand-reach, my iPad and planning to soon invest into Push as well… so I need some more space

How will you ue Maschine & Push? For my money, it would be either one or the other?

Just interested…

I ran out of space for Maschine too (using a Jerker-style desk from IKEA). So I got a snare drum stand for like $20 and used that. Actually works really well, because it’s right at hand drumming level.

I use a djembe for push. I have a korg poly 61m and it fits perfectly across the jerker’s shelf.

Why a Jerker…? Vika Amon does the trick for me.

Me still votes for Livid BASE on that desk Tekki :+1:

Would love to have one Stewe!

Wow Tekki, that looks exactly like something Id be after. What did you use for the upper shelf that is placed on top of the desk ? The feet I know are from Ikea, they cost quite cheap, like 14 bucks or so, right ?

and why Push and Maschine ? Well, basically, I play techno and love to use Maschine during my live sets when I gig. And since I have it anyway, I use it to create quick beat ideas and then transport them in ableton. However, lately I find myself more and more using Max4live devices during production, so Id like to incorporate Push as well, for more hands-on control  maybe a bit of an overkill for drums creation, but Push is more than just that.

The feet are idd the Capita ones from Ikea.

The shelf is from Ikea as well… It is an Ekby Amund.

Here’s a short pictorial on how I created the top shelf.
