I’ve got a gig coming up at a local festival (Crookfest for those in the North East) and was wondering whether or not to get some business cards made up? These would mainly have my Facebook page, logo and e-mail address on.
Does anybody use these and does anyone have any advice whether or not I should or if this would be kinda tool-ish?
You don’t have to go out of your way to dish out business cards. But if you make a connection, wouldn’t you rather give them a printed card than write your info down on a napkin?
It all depends on who your giving them too. If your just talking about handing out to random members of the public then yeah stickers or flyers or some other fun wee prop is fine.
But if your meaning on a professional level, where you meet a promoter or event organiser or whatever, someone who may give you some work, then business cards all the way. Something fairly plain and understated works well, looks professional, or there are lots of very trendy ones made from metal or other weird things that make you stand out.
However there is a middle ground between the plain professional ones and the super cool ones, where people try to use lots of colour and graphics and things, where its all very basic and looks like they’ve just stuck a pile of microsoft cliparts onto a page, and it just looks a bit try hard. Its a fine balance.
Stickers for the younger, business cards for any inquiries. So many occasions people have come up and asked for my card and I was glad that I had some made
i´d say it highly depends on the scene if to hand out a card or a sticker. but i guess the card is more appropriate in you´re scene. ask me if i´d rather get a sticker or a card when i´m in the fourties and i can assure you what my answer will be but i guess that´s just me …
CD’s. Professionally printed mix CD’s are probably one of the best ways of self promo. But that’s if you have a mix you’ve sat down and spent the time breaking up into sections, and have the cash to front for that. I plan on getting some made up soon, but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened over and over to random CD’s people have given to me at parties, and passed along the names to other promoters I know.
I’m thinking about doing business cards as well. Just with my basic contact info, facebook, soundcloud.
I’ve also seen a few “stickers” on one side, with the basic business card on the other. Not a bad call either.
