For solid modeling Solidworks or Inventor, they’re really similar and both have advantages, I prefer Inventor.

uh… really jsut to design the face of my diy controller… se where buttons will go and knobs and faders and stuff… nothing too tech =) thanks though!

http://www.instructables.com/image/FA4GZB5GJHVGSSZ/Construction.jpg found this online… hell i think it would make more sense to use graph paper and a ruler!!!

you could probably use any freeware CAD soft or the GiMP with vector graphics. Graph paper does the job as well

If you want to create a 3d model: Google Sketchup should be suitable for what you want to do. Ive never used it but I’ve seen plenty of basic conceptual design work done with it.

But if its just for the layout (top-down view of the controller) then just use something like Inkscape (vector graphics app) or Gimp to do your layout. Just make sure that when you create your graphics layout / 3d model, you do it in real-world units (inches / millimeters etc.) as opposed to pixels or something else.

thanks… i really appreciate this feedback! il get started =]
