Can someone with a Macbook & traktor try this for me please (PC too I guess)
Can someone just try something for me please just so I know Im not going completely insane.
Would somebody be so kind as to map nothing but 4 play/pause buttons, one for each deck in traktor to buttons, Q, U, Z and M on your keyboard. It has to be those buttons.
Once you’ve done that can you tell me what happens when you push play on all the buttons at the same time. Do they all play together, or do you get another type of behaviour?
Interesting. I’m on PC. I can’t be arsed to map the buttons in Traktor, but I’ve had a little play as above. When using the buttons you’ve described I can’t get them all to consistently trigger together, however with the QWER buttons I can. I think it may be something to do with the way the keyboard chip processes the buttons through the character ‘matrix’. If the last sentence sounds like bollox it is because I’ve no idea what I’m talking about. I’d wager there is no way around it either.
My problem has been discussed in another thread, but that thread was asking loads of different questions with regard to traktor. This is now focussed on one problem. I can’t play 4 decks, or play 4 cue points together when the buttons are mapped far away from each other on the keyboard. It works when they are all next to each other, but not when far away. I dont know if its to do with the particular rows dont communicate well with each other or something. But basically I am experiencing different behaviours with the same functions depending on where they are mapped on the keyboard. Sometimes anything more then 2 buttons dont work, sometimes anything more then 3 buttons dont work.
Like I said there was a post where a few kind peeps tried to help but we couldnt resolve it.
I have now made a video to show my problem. Sorry about the quality and the sound, it was literally to demonstrate what the problem is.
If anyone can help I’d be forever in your debt. NI are currently trying out my TSI maps and are going to get back to me. But just wanted to see if anyone here has the same issue (not that they have the same setting).
Everything becomes clear!!! Fucker!.. I gotta go spend £150 on a launchpad now! Anyone wanna buy an external apple keyboard?
I better email Frank at Native Instruments who’s been helping me and tell him the score.
YES!! FINALLY! Yeah defo big props to Lethal. I’m glad you saw this post Karlos cos I know you thought I was doing something wrong. I knew I wasnt THAT stupid, a little stupid but not that stupid.
Peace
edit:
Which will explain why it worked the 1st time - as I had it mapped to QWER.
To be honest mate (i can be pretty stupid) i though that there must be ‘something’ wrong somewhere. I didnt think you were being stupid cus you where doing all the right things.
It was just bloody baffling ..!
Can u not use different keys? or are you set on buying a Launch Pad ?
Well this is the thing. I’m happy to rework my mappings, but one thing I am set on is dividing the keyboard up into quarters so it mimics the lay out of the screen (dunno if you watched my poor quality vid), so which ever way I have it I am going to have to figure out which buttons wont clash. I could have the cue and play buttons in the middle 2 rows of the keyboard but then I run the risk of hitting a cue button on the deck above or below by mistake, which is kinda why I had the row’s space in between them. I’m sure I’ll sort something out.
I think a launchpad will work out to be cheaper than building my own controller plus I’ll have the lights. I’ll let you know how I get on
No way! I did this when I originally purchased traktor with just 2 decks, had the decks set up so they are stacked on top of each other in rows on the keyboard. I quickly learnt that in a club environment its easy to have problems visually as to knowing what deck are on what row. I had to look closely and make sure I was hitting the right buttons. At least if its split up into actual 4 quarters its already laid out like it is on the screen.
Pushing 1 button for all 4 decks isnt what I want to do. I covered this in another post. Besides its the same for all the cue points too, not practical! And that keyboard you linked me to is massive, it would stick out the top of my record bag. It needs to be no longer than 12 inches. To be fair yes I am sure there are more compact keyboards that can handle it but I might as well just get a launchpad as it has the LEDs
I dont think you’re following what Im saying. Its got nothing to do with colour, its the fact that because its laid out in quarters I instantly know where my hands should be in order to push the button I want. Its more of an instinctive thing. Its like when it comes to EQ’s you know the treble is at the top, mids in the middle, and bass at the bottom, doesnt matter what colour the knobs are you’re always going to feel comfortable with the configuration. I dont know if you’ve tried using an Ecler HAK 360 mixer? The EQ’s run horizontally as opposed to the usual vertically, rubbish design if you ask me, I kept reaching for the wrong knob. Its on that basis. Naturally my mind works as the decks are laid out on the screen. Having them stacked is not the route I want to go down. But thanks
Hm, noticed this in the days I build my own Quake3-Configfiles. The only way to find the right keyboard is to test out different ones. Manufacturers differ a great deal on which keys to group. I found that switching the keyboard got rid of the problem. Now if I only remembered which keyboard and manufacturer…
You might want to check out Gaming-Hardware-Sites, they sometimes state facts like these.
BTW: Old keyboards would beep when you press more than 3 buttons… That made error-checking wayyy easier.
