Granted, I am not some guy that has been here since the beginning, and mostly DJ with my S4…but…would it not help more than hinder this forum to have these? I like and appreciate the online community here, check the forum multiple times a day, and learn a lot. Yes this topic is partially triggered by the recent absence of DJForums, and I realize the roots of DJTT, but how could it hurt to expand and broaden just a little? It would really help fill some “online forum gaps” for a lot of DJ’s. It seems that DJTT has been solid, reliable, and growing, and a great platform for expansion. In the real world, the lines between DJ mediums are blending, having a reliable online community that serves a majority of DJ’s could really act as a catalyst for the acceptance of newer technology alongside more traditional mediums.
Obviously this is just my opinion, I don’t know managements goals or future intended direction, or costs and time that would be associate with such a change, but feel that some thought should be given to creating these. Again, nothing but respect and appreciation for what Ean and team have done! Just an idea…
I don’t see the problem with posting topics about CDJs and TTs in the “General Discussion” subforum, but I see your point. This could increase the amount of activity we see here and organize it better.
(Is still waiting for that rumored Ableton subforum. :C)
I see no problem with a dedicated TT/CDJ forum. I think it might be harder to differentiate between TT/CDJ users and controllerists though because the majority if TT/CDJ users on DJTT use them inconjunction with controllers of one sort or another (generalisation, i know) so i dont think you would get a pure TT/CDJ forum unless as Onimode says, we get a lot of that kind of traffic.
I say go for it, I would love to see a forum dedicated to cdjs and vinyl and I hope it would bring a wider audience here. I think having a separate forum would encourage a wider audience to join instead of some people just assuming we are all a bunch of button mashing efx whores.
I think a TT/CDJ sub-forum on DJTT would serve more as a place to welcome users of those mediums that might not necessarily be controllerists as well. It would just be a forum section where users of TTs/CDJs (including those that use them in conjunction with controllers) could post specifically about that aspect of their equipment in a place (DJTT) that has a controllerism roots, thus promoting convergence, understanding, and acceptance of controllerism.
^I don’t know if that run-on sentence makes any sense hahaha.
Another thing that got me thinking about this is the local TT/CDJ DJ’s that I work with. It would be cool for them to join this forum and gain more of an understanding of controllerism, and using controllers in conjunction with their set up. They aren’t going to join though unless there is people talking about ttm-57s and 1200s.
I think the forum should be titled something a little broader to maybe encompass all aspects of non controller or timecode djing rather than naming it something that implies pure technical discussion of the equipment itself. a place for the vinyl and cdj guys pretty much.
I think a big reason to have a dedicated forum is a lot of people who are strictly cdjs or tts might not sign up to post when they see there is no dedicated place to post and they assume it is all controller guys here. This place will always have a digital/controller focus but I think opening up a venue for non controller/timecode djs to post and feel welcome could do a lot for the forum as a whole and bring more people to the table for some better more well rounded general discussion as well.
I think that would help but we would still need another subforum. In conjunction with another subforum for non controller djing it woud do it and now this is the perfect time with the overflow from djf looking for a place to post. It could really help grow this place.
“CDJ and Vinyl DJing” would be perfect and is general enough that it encompasses all aspects of djing with cdjs, turntables, vinyl, and all related discussion without sounding like it is a forum just to talk about equipment.
well it is vinyl… DVS already gets talked about in just about every other area and would fit in there too. I think keeping it kind of vague would be helpful since there are so many other technical gear focused forums and if you call in “cdj and turntable discussion” it sounds like another equipment choosing and troubleshooting subforum that doesn’t foster more general discussion on the topic.
either one works, personally i think vinyl sounds better but you’re right it’s not up to any of us haha. in the end either one will be a great addition to this forum.
