So you think we have a good forum?

So you think we have a good forum?

Your right! it rocks, everyone here is respectful, helpful and generally on point.

Now if we ever start to sound like this forum: :disappointed:
http://scratchlive.net/forum/discussion/?discussion_id=98913#new

I will shut it down lickety split.

Oh the internet… well, I say everyone with over 500 posts have the power to ban people… I would never abuse this power.

I swear.

DJTECHTOOLS = THE MOST POSITIVE DJ FORUM I’VE EVER BEEN ON.

as mike skinner said: ā€œlet’s push things forwardā€

WOW!

I hate to say but thats SSL users for you.

Bad joke, i know…

A little less aggravation, a little more action please.

This is by far the most positive helpful open forum I’ve been on. Mad kudos everyone, especially Ean. This is by far the best place to get advice about digital DJing. The more we get on the better, I just hope as the forums get bigger we don’t slide into what the SSL forums are like..

I think in general its to do with the attitude of digital DJs. We know were the underdogs and often will be prejudiced against so we have a unified mentality. Go us!

I think, to a large extent, Midian’s right about the attitude thing. Some people take the underdog mentality and let it make them arrogant and cocky. Others, like us, become helpful, understanding that once there are more of us we ain’t the underdogs no more.

Then we lead our dark army fo the night into battle and destroy!.. um… wrong thread

Ean:

Think about it… Our host, is a well known, respected, versed and positive individual, who is a perfectionist and cares about doing things right.

Our fellow members really care for sharing and supporting each other in a professional manner. Many are eager to learn and DJTT has proven to be the perfect blog/forums to find what ā€œweā€ are looking for, in an excellent community that will not flame our members for being a newbie or being a superstar, for not ā€œknowing it allā€, etc (Talk about attitude)

Each and everyone of us at DJTT are proud of being part of such a successful project that is growing really fast. We all know this is just the beginning of many good things to come.

Toast: Viva DJ Tech Tools!

I am proud to be apart of DJTT… that’s why I WANT A T-SHIRT!

And Stickers!

Who cares what they use SSL or otherwise . The absolute lack of of actual real world experience in that forum is obvious . I’ve been doing nothing but DJing for a living the past 2 years of my life and Ean nailed everything I’ve been doing the last 2 years to a T (for the most part) to make ends meet . Is it paying off ? yes . Is it stressful ? Yes at times like any other job . Am I happy ? Happier than I have ever been in my life .

I’ve been lucky enough to align myself with some great wedding companies that focus on people with more eclectic taste and less of a need for some douchebag who gets up and does the hokey pokey with the crowd while playing a blow up guitar . What’s even better about this is I’ve actually made more friends who come out to my nightclub gigs around Philly . I’ve also picked up more nightclub gigs through working at different hotels or working with caterers who like what I do and realize I’m great DJ .

As far as money goes the dip shit who chimed in on the Skratch live forum blabbing about all the money he spent to learn to do weddings is completely that a dip shit . Anyone who spends all that money on learning to be a a wedding DJ should have just gone to college for communications at a community college and he would have been alot better of financially and might not ended up looking like a whiny little cunt .

Now as far as bar-lounge stuff these guys have absolutely no clue what they’re saying $100-$250 is the going rate in Philly unless you have a great following and by great following I mean 75-100 person guarantee . Now I know in NYC it’s a bit more my last gig in Brooklyn me and my homegurl Monica walked out of there with $600 to split between the both of us . Now I have done a couple nightclub gigs where I’ve seen about $600 just for myself but at the moment those a few and far between like or 2 a year . I’ve got alot of friends who do these $100-$250 gigs all week and they make ends meet quite well .

Now one thing Ean didn’t touch on is strip club DJing something I’m doing as we speak . It’s easy the money isn’t too bad at all and you get to be surrounded by half naked women . The pay for these type of gigs usually works like this . You work a shift the longer the shift the more you make . You’re tipped by the girls usually a minimum of $10-$20 a girl you are also given a shift pay which is usually $75-$100 per 6-7 hour shift . The more you a take care of the girls and play them the music they have on their list the more they tip you (biggest tip I’ve seen $120) . There are alot of perks to this type of gig but there’s alot of pitfalls both being the women lol . But if you’re nice enough to these type of girls you then have more females that will come out to your gigs or who are willing to help you promote your gigs .

Just my 2cents .

The difference between this forum and many other forums out there - and im a n00b to this forum, so I might be wrong of course - is that the most part of the forum are professionals, that know what they are talking about, know how to act on a forum, and most of all, are interested in helping out people when they are in need.

This is essential in order to keep a Technical forum alive, in my humble opinion. I have been part of many forums before, run 2 myself and admin 1, and when you get the usual trolls, assholes and spammers to join, they will destroy the spirit of the forum in no time.

The solution of course to this is to moderate with an iron fist, and let none of the above kind of people have their way.

But even strong moderation can have negative effects on a forum -that started out positive- because the other members might not understand why a certain person got banned etc etc. Complaints start coming in, and the forum gets out of hand.

I would not think that this would happen on this forum though, as there is not really an OffTopic section. And it is mostly an Offtopic section of a forum, that gets out of hand.

ā€œGive the people freedom to do whatever they want, and they will do exactly what you do not want them to doā€

With the userbase of today, this forum would not have a problem with an Offtopic section, but as soon as you open one up, it attracts the spammers like flies on cowshit.

Well, thats kind of long about what I think about the forum, and I think I could have said all of the above in once sentece with:

ā€œKeep the forum as it is, it is fine, I love it here!ā€

Kind regards and loads of props to Ean and his evil mods!

djtechtools all day everyday. :sunglasses:

I agree, this forum is great! I have seen many go down to shit.

Cool! Nice! And ofcourse welcom other1!

This forum kick ass!

I think too many Dj have this bubble of self hype following them around and they are shit scared some one will pop it by doing something different.

Being a DJ makes you cool in punters eyes. You roll up to club/party and people are like wow cool your the DJ (hope everybody can see me talking to the DJ).

This is of course all bull shit, just a left over effect of the dance music at its peak.

But for some people this is why they DJ, you try and talk to them about creativity, inspiration, other genres, techniques etc and their eyes glaze over.

Traditional DJing is, and has been for some time, largely in stasis, that way all the DJs who do it mainly for the cool factor never have to risk anything or push their own boundaries.

This is reflected in all the unconstructive comments in the SSL forum in respect to cutting costs, innovating on pricing structures, the dick who claimed travel costs when harping on about all the training he has done… for djing weddings…

If they think that an old boys club mentality of collectively refusing to compete on price will keep them in the same pocket when they do not actually have any kind of monopoly they
A) need to to read the headlines in the last few weeks,
B) need to head back to school and learn some history,

Deep down inside they know that your innovation will eventually steal their limelight.

Its always a laugh when the arguments on skratch-works fall to threats of physical violence, ā€œif you were standing in front of meā€¦ā€
