So I’m trying to teach myself CDJ’s so I can be more technically versatile, but the one thing that is stumping me is how to organize my music for CDJ’s as opposed to my current setup which has everything organized in iTunes for use in Traktor. I know that I can connect my macbook to CDJ’s, but I don’t want to do that because the whole appeal for me of CDJ’s is the fact that I can just carry in a couple flash drives with my music. No bags, no laptops, no setup, just plug in my flash drive and go.
So my question is: how do you organize your music on your usb flash drives for CDJ’s? And how much music do you bring? Do you bring multiple drives of different music, and if so, how do you know what is on which drive?
And a bonus question lol!
When I DJ with my S4, I can carry all my music with me cuz it’s all in my iTunes library, but when you DJ with CDJ’s, how much music do you usually bring with you?
Just make lots of playlists. Some of the newer CDJ’s have more organizing features, but I’ve only ever used 2000’s. I believe they have a search function, but I’m not sure. If you’re still drowning, bring a couple of drives and organize them by genre. Personally, I only bring music that I know I’ll use on a CDJ. Mostly because I’m too lazy to copy my whole collection to a usb drive
There is no right or wrong answer, YMMV.
Just downloaded and got into Rekordbox and it is amazing! Perfect solution! I also got an app from the mac app store called Rekord Buddy that seamlessly syncs playlists, beat grids, hot cues etc between Traktor and Rekordbox, so I can do playlists in either application and sync them.
